Former President Donald Trump recently expressed his frustration and disappointment when he saw Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt endorsing Ron DeSantis for the 2024 presidential race. Trump took to his preferred platform, Truth Social, to criticize DeSantis and question Stitt’s decision.
Trump claimed that DeSantis’s declining poll numbers were a result of his proposed reforms to entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security. He referred to Stitt’s previous call to him before his election, seeking Trump’s endorsement, which he gladly provided. According to Trump, Stitt’s popularity soared after receiving his endorsement, leading to his victory in Oklahoma. Trump expressed surprise and disapproval over Stitt’s endorsement of DeSantis, emphasizing that he dislikes DeSantis and criticized his selection of Senate candidates.
Trump initially deleted his post but later reposted it with corrected figures regarding the number of counties he won in Oklahoma. He then proceeded to make mention of his ongoing legal issues, including a federal indictment for mishandling classified documents.
Regarding Stitt’s appearance on Fox & Friends, the Oklahoma governor explained his endorsement of DeSantis by focusing on the bigger picture of defeating President Joe Biden and reclaiming the White House. Stitt praised DeSantis as the right candidate to accomplish this, despite DeSantis trailing in polls compared to Trump. Stitt emphasized the importance of finding someone who could win the election and serve as president for two terms.
Stitt’s endorsement of DeSantis comes after his reelection campaign faced opposition from Native American tribes in Oklahoma. These tribes supported Stitt’s Democratic opponent, Joy Hofmeister, due to disputes over the state’s agreements with the tribes and their increasing sovereignty under Supreme Court rulings.
“Governor Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma, who I didn’t know very well, called me before his last election to say he was in BIG trouble and very much needed my Endorsement,” Trump said. “I LOVE Oklahoma & won 77 out of 77 Counties, something that never happened before. Ronald Reagan was next with 56. Anyway, I gave him my endorsement, he immediately went way up, and won. Now, despite the fact that DeSanctimonious is losing to Biden, & me, Stitt just endorsed him. Wow! He disliked “the Indians” & my great Senate pick!”
