Trump Georgia Case ‘Falls Apart’ After Fani Willis…

Fox News legal analyst Paul Mauro recently discussed how the Georgia case against former President Donald Trump is “falling apart” due to recent developments. Trump and over a dozen co-defendants are facing election interference and racketeering charges brought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

In an interview with Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner, Mauro highlighted two significant developments: the Georgia Court of Appeals’ decision to consider Trump’s appeal to disqualify Fani Willis from the case, and the indefinite postponement of the Florida trial concerning classified documents. These delays could push the bulk of Trump’s criminal cases past the November election.

Mauro suggested that the Georgia Senate’s investigation, with its subpoena power, could open Willis up to scrutiny, especially if they can access text messages and other communications between her and Nathan Wade, a former prosecutor involved in the case. The implication is that uncovering these communications might lead to revelations of perjury or misconduct, further complicating the prosecution’s case.

Faulkner set the stage for Mauro’s analysis by pointing out the confusion in the various cases against Trump. The judge in the Florida classified documents case postponed that trial indefinitely due to unresolved issues, while special counsel Jack Smith admitted that the documents seized from Mar-a-Lago were not in their original sequence. This information adds to the perception of disarray in the legal processes surrounding Trump.

Mauro explained that the rush to indict Trump led to various legal issues that are now causing conflicts among the cases. He noted that Judge Cannon in Florida delayed the classified documents case due to its conflict with other proceedings involving Trump. This delay, combined with the Georgia Court of Appeals’ willingness to consider Trump’s appeal, creates uncertainty about when these cases will proceed.

FAULKNER: The Georgia Court of Appeal says it will consider former President Trump’s request to disqualify District Attorney Fani Willis. Wow. We haven’t said her name in 15 minutes. This is his election interference case. I thought she’d be a reality TV star by now. No. The judge in this case had ruled that Fani Willis could stay on the case only if her former lover and prosecutor, Nathan Wade, dropped out, so he quit. In Florida, the judge in Trump’s classified documents case has postponed that trial indefinitely. She says there are still way too many issues that need to be resolved. And on top of that, special counsel Jack Smith admitted that seized documents from Mar-A-Lago are not in their original order in sequence. Alright, make this make sense.

MAURO: Yeah. They’re all falling apart. Part of what’s going on here is that in the rush to indict Trump, they’re all stepping all over each other. So Judge Cannon in Florida has the wherewithal to say, I’m going to postpone this case because he’s stuck in New York. And these cases are all conflicting. Now you get this mess relative to the evidence. The federal case is not going to be heard until after the election. That looks like almost certainty. So what’s left? You got the Fani case. Here’s the thing about the Fani case. Now the Senate there is investigating. They have subpoena power. She says she won’t respond. Let’s see if they can get her in. Here’s the Holy Grail there, especially with the case having gone up on appeal. You need to get the evidence of her texts and other material between her and Nathan Wade. You’ll open her up to perjury.
