According to Mediaite, in a notable event that took place in New Hampshire, former Vice President Mike Pence stepped forward to address a gathering of reporters, seizing the opportunity to express his deep concerns regarding the federal indictment against former President Donald Trump. Pence, known for his measured approach and careful choice of words, described the indictment as “deeply troubling” while simultaneously critiquing the Department of Justice  for pursuing such charges.

Pence’s remarks showcased a delicate balance between his loyalty to Trump and his commitment to upholding the rule of law. He acknowledged the weight of the situation, recognizing that no individual, regardless of their position, should be exempt from the consequences of mishandling classified materials. Pence underscored the gravity of the issue, highlighting that the proper handling of classified information is crucial for national security.

Although Pence had hoped for a resolution without resorting to an indictment, he cautioned against the potential divisiveness that could arise from charging a former president. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a united front both domestically and on the global stage, conveying concerns that such an indictment could send a negative message to the international community.

Drawing from his personal experience, Pence reflected on a situation involving the inadvertent storage of a small number of classified materials. He stressed the significance of meticulously reviewing records to ensure the proper handling of classified information. Pence made it clear that his team had fully cooperated with the FBI during their investigation and took complete responsibility for the innocent mistake. By sharing this anecdote, he aimed to convey the importance of learning from past errors and implementing rigorous measures to safeguard the nation’s secrets.

Pence implored patience and restraint from the American public, urging them to refrain from passing judgment until all the facts surrounding Trump’s case had been thoroughly examined. He emphasized the significance of due process and allowing the legal system to run its course. By doing so, Pence aimed to encourage a measured approach that would promote fairness and uphold the principles upon which the nation’s justice system is built.

“I think it is deeply troubling to see an indictment against a former president of the United States,” Pence said. “I had hoped that the Department of Justice would see its way clear to solve this without an indictment, and said so earlier this week. An indictment against a former president is going to be extraordinarily divisive at a very challenging time for American families, and I also believe it sends a terrible message to the wider world.

“That being said, let me be clear on a few points: No one is above the law. In America, we have to stand on the rule of law, irrespective of politics. Secondly, the handling of classified materials is a very serious matter in this nation. My years as vice president, my years serving on the international relations committee in the House of Representatives. It’s important that we protect the nation’s secrets.

“It’s one of the reasons why during the multiple disclosures at President Biden’s home of classified materials that he had maintained as vice president and as president, that we thought it was appropriate to have our records examined. And we found that there was a small number of classified materials that had been stored inadvertently with our materials as well,” he said.

Pence that his team “fully cooperated with the FBI’s investigation” and that he takes “full responsibility for it.”

“I’m pleased that last week the Department of Justice ruled that it was an innocent mistake, he continued. “But let me be clear, it was an innocent mistake. And the nation’s secrets are absolutely vital to securing the country in the days ahead.”
