Former President Donald Trump will be attending a fundraiser in Minnesota on a day off from his hush money trial. This fundraiser, hosted by the state GOP, is part of their annual Lincoln Reagan dinner and coincides with the party’s state convention. Trump’s visit follows his attendance at his son Barron’s high school graduation in Florida earlier in the day. Trump has expressed confidence in his ability to win Minnesota in the upcoming election, despite its historical trend of voting Democratic.
The event is co-hosted by the Minnesota Republican Party chairman, David Hann, and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, who represents a district in central Minnesota. Tickets for the dinner range from $500 to $100,000 for a VIP table with photo opportunities with Trump. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the state party, with some funds from photo opportunities possibly going to Trump’s campaign.
Minnesota has not voted for a Republican presidential candidate since Richard Nixon in 1972, and while Trump narrowly lost the state in 2016, he faced a wider margin of defeat in 2020. However, Trump and his supporters believe there is significant dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden that could make the state competitive in the upcoming election.
