Trump Melts Down After Jack Smith Arrest Report

In a conversation with New York Times political reporter Maggie Haberman on Wednesday, former President Donald Trump denied having any knowledge of an impending federal indictment, contrary to reports circulating in the media. Haberman shared Trump’s response on Twitter, stating that he had told her he had not been informed about any indictment and reiterated his belief that he had done nothing wrong.

Haberman clarified that she sought Trump’s comment in light of a report from one of his allies suggesting that he had been informed about the indictment. Multiple news outlets, including The New York Times, CNN, and The Washington Post, have reported that federal officials have been building a case that could potentially lead to an indictment against Trump. Witnesses have been called before a grand jury in Miami, according to these reports.

Trump’s statement came amid a report from one of his allies that he has been told this. NYT, CNN, WaPo, and other outlets have all reported federal officials have been building toward a likely indictment, including with witnesses in Miami before a grand jury today.

Adding to the confusion, Truth Social, Trump’s own social media platform, sent out a push notification asserting that Trump would be indicted on Wednesday. However, Trump himself took to the platform to refute the claim and express his belief that he has been a target of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI for years.

Bill O’Reilly, a former Fox News host, also reported on Tuesday that Trump would be indicted by Special Counsel Jack Smith on felony charges related to the unauthorized removal of classified documents. O’Reilly mentioned potential prosecutorial misconduct in his statement.

Further speculations surrounding the potential indictment have been fueled by Jack Posobiec, a proponent of the Pizzagate conspiracy theory, who claimed that Trump would be indicted in the following week, generating excitement among his MAGA base.

The team led by Special Counsel Jack Smith has remained tight-lipped about any impending charges against the former president, as they continue their investigations into Trump’s role in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol and his handling of classified documents.
