Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker may have inadvertently revealed Vice President Kamala Harris’ vice presidential pick in a recent campaign ad. The ad, posted on Parker’s campaign Instagram account, seemed to suggest that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro will be Harris’ running mate. This speculation was reinforced by images from the ad appearing on Harris’ Pennsylvania campaign page.

According to an article from the Inquirer, Parker’s video encourages support for “Kamala Harris for president” and “Josh Shapiro for vice president.” It is unclear whether Parker was explicitly confirming Shapiro as Harris’ choice or simply highlighting his high chances. The Inquirer reached out to Parker’s office for clarification but did not receive a response. The outlet noted that the video might not have been intended as an official announcement, though Philly Mag editor Ernest Owens disagrees.

A source close to Parker, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the video was not an official announcement but rather an expression of support for a longtime friend who is among those being considered. Despite this, the presence of Shapiro’s photos on Harris’ campaign site suggests a closer connection.

In the ad, Parker praises Shapiro as a potential vice presidential partner, saying, “I can’t think of a better partner than our governor, Josh Shapiro.” While this move is seen positively by many on the left, it has drawn criticism from some conservatives. They have raised concerns about Shapiro’s record, including his legal actions as Attorney General and his policies on education and unions. Critics argue that his positions and actions may not align with their values or expectations for a vice presidential candidate.
