According to Mediaite, former President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack against various political adversaries amid concerns that he might be subjected to a gag order in connection with his efforts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election.
Following his intense criticism of President Joe Biden’s interview on Scott Pelley’s 60 Minutes, Trump directed his ire toward Special Counsel Jack Smith and U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, among others, in a late-night post on Truth Social. This online outburst occurred just hours before Monday’s hearing in Washington, during which Smith’s prosecutors were scheduled to seek legal constraints on Trump’s ability to discuss his case, citing fears that he could prejudice the jury pool and intimidate witnesses.
“Tomorrow marks a significant day for Democracy,” Trump lamented. “A Leaking, Crooked, and Deranged Prosecutor, Jack Smith, who has a dismal record of failures, is requesting a highly partisan Obama-appointed Judge, Tanya Chutkan, who should recuse herself based on the egregious statements she has made, to silence me using a powerful GAG ORDER. This move makes it impossible for me to criticize those who are orchestrating this silencing, namely Crooked Joe Biden, and his corrupt and weaponized DOJ & FBI.”
Furthermore, Trump expressed:
“They aim to strip away my First Amendment rights and my ability to both campaign and defend myself. In essence, they seek to cheat and meddle in the 2024 Presidential Election. This unprecedented turn of events resembles the actions of a Banana Republic. These political operatives and bullies are dismantling our nation. Let’s wait and watch what unfolds on Monday in Judge Chutkan’s courtroom. Will America endure, or not? I’ll be on the campaign trail in the Great State of Iowa, where I am leading by an astounding 50 points!!!”
For weeks, Smith’s team has been pushing for a limited gag order against Trump, arguing that his inflammatory rhetoric and other contentious comments pose a threat to the integrity of the case. Earlier this month, Trump was silenced in his civil business fraud case after launching social media attacks against the law clerk to the presiding judge.
