Fans of the upcoming UFC 264 card, which is set to feature Conor McGregor against Dustin Poirier in a highly-anticipated contest were in for a brief shock as the card was officially announced this week. Enthusiasts of the sport were expecting Tai Tuivasa Vs. Greg Hardy Jr. to co-main event the stacked card after a previous version of the card leaked online. However, this will not be the case as the fight that is scheduled to co-main event will officially be Gilbert Burns Vs. Stephen Thompson. This former UFC star stated he wanted to fight Conor McGregor earlier this year.
Tuivasa Vs Hardy Jr will be scheduled as the third to final fight on the show. Over on the popular MMA subreddit, fans and fellow Redditors discussed the change and their overall thoughts on the card.
kneeco28Canada stated: “I wouldn’t call it the UFC making changes so much as they hadn’t set the bout order and the UFC website posted the fights haphazardly. I don’t think there was ever an intention to have Hardy v Tai in the co-main.” While reubenbatman3 said: “Y’all freaked out with Hardy as the co-main, which would never happen with contenders Burns and Wonderboy fighting.”
UFC 264 will take place on July 10, 2021 at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, part of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area. It will be the third fight in a trilogy between the two UFC stars with McGregor having had won the first bout and Poirier having won the second.
