Why was The Undertaker in NYC for SummerSlam weekend?

The Undertaker ran the WWE as ring general and locker room leader for decades but WrestleMania 33 might have been his last dance. When he lost to Roman Reigns he slowly took off his entrance garb and left it laying in the ring. It was symbolic of a retirement and many people were wondering if The Undertaker was done for good.

Even though WWE announcers have been reportedly told not to mention The Undertaker’s retirement on commentary the general assumption is The Undertaker wrestled his last match against Roman Reigns in Orlando.

New reports of Undertaker sightings on his way to New York City on SummerSlam weekend made some people hope for an appearance of The Dead Man. However, The Phenom never showed up to The Biggest Party Of The Summer. People still chanted for Undertaker during SummerSlam and Raw as they wanted him to come down re-spark his rivalry with Roman Reigns.

Jerry “The King” Lawler recently spoke about his SummerSlam experience on his podcast Dinner With The King. He also revealed whether or not he saw Taker backstage at the show and if he was in town, The King theorized why The Dead Man might have been in NYC.

“I did not see or hear him mentioned at all [backstage at SummerSlam]. I dress in the talent relations room where at one point or another everybody on the card came through that room and I never saw him. But you know what? Here’s something that I just realized. He may have been there because they were doing scans for a new game. Everybody that was on the show that night, myself included, had to be scanned. This company, it’s not the 2K people, it’s a different game that’s gonna be coming out next year. So everybody had to have their face scans and their body scans.”
