Update: Mick Foley Edits Hell In A Cell Main Event Announcement

As we previously reported, WWE Monday Night RAW General Manager Mick Foley took to his official Facebook page to announce that Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte would serve as the main event for the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view (PPV). Now Foley has edited his statement, saying he is unsure of the main event:

Forget for a moment about Stephanie McMahon’s jumping high-five or my awkward attempt to hug the #RAW Comissioner. The biggest moment of the night for us came when the #WWE cameras were off, and Stephanie and I just looked at the #HIAC poster, realizing that for #WomensWrestling, history is upon us – as Sasha Banks and Charlotte are in a main event at the #HIAC PPV. I am so happy for Sasha, for Charlotte, for all the women who paved the way, and all those who aspire to follow in their footsteps. It is no exaggeration to say that looking at that poster gave me chills…and they were multiplying. * Mick’s note: I have no idea which match will go on last, or which match will go down in history as being the official main event. The Universal Championship match between Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins is shaping up to be something special, and I am sure both men will be doing their best to steal the show – which is as it should be. In the end, the main event is whatever each fan decides it is.

Its a risky proposition to have the womens match as a main event. While it is a HIAC match, womens matches a traditionally seen as the rest break match for a lot of fans, so while its a ground breaking match, and will probably get better viewing figures for a womens match than normal, there will still be a big section of the fan base that just does not give a damn about womens wrestling. There is also I am sure, a section of the fans who don’t think this should happen or will work.
I am sure there are a lot of people curious about it, but its a very risky match, and I think pushing it as a main event would actually put too much pressure on it and the women in it.
If its lower down the card and fails, it will pretty much be able to be shrugged off as “at least we tried”.
If its the main event, then it could make or break the ppv.
If it succeeds, it wont matter where it is on the card, it will still be a huge deal.

Looks like word came down from on high to slow Mick’s roll there.
