Rusev was originally announced for the Super Showdown event but it was confirmed during the latest episode of Raw that Rey Mysterio would be replacing him in the bout.
Dave Meltzer talked about Rusev’s status in the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio and revealed that the word backstage was that Rusev was dealing with a back injury.
However, while this is the story among employees, Meltzer claimed that the Bulgarian Brute “essentially backed out of the show” taking place this Thursday.

It appears that Rusev pulling out of the event was a last-minute decision from the star as the graphics the company showed on Raw still featured him despite the fact that the announcers mentioned Rey Mysterio’s name.
Rusev is currently involved in a contract dispute with WWE and it was reported recently that he still has a lot of time left on his current deal with the promotion.
