Update on why Asuka has been kept off television

Asuka retained her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble when she beat Becky Lynch via submission. However, since her successful title defence at the Royal Rumble Asuka has been virtually absent from WWE TV.

Asuka will also not be defending the Smackdown Live Women’s Championship at Elimination Chamber as she is not booked for the pay-per-view.  Apparently, there is a good reason that WWE has kept Asuka off of TV and the Elimination Chamber.

According to a report from Wrestle Votes, WWE does, in fact, have a plan for Asuka at WrestleMania 35, however, her opponent isn’t currently available for her. Regarding WWE’s plans for Asuka, Wrestle Votes said:

“Been getting a ton of Asuka questions. As far as I know, they do have a plan for Mania. Just wasn’t wise for Asuka to be featured the last few weeks. WWE doesn’t want excessive “brand jumping” prior to WM, leaving only Lana or Vega for Chamber. That’s not a PPV matchup WWE wanted.”

So it seems that Asuka’s Wrestlemania opponent will either be one of the participants of Sunday’s Women’s Tag Team Title Elimination Chamber match or a Superstar on the RAW roster. So we will have to wait and see who her opponent will be.
