Update on Rey Mysterio’s WWE status, appearance at Greatest Royal Rumble

It was revealed yesterday by PWInsider that Rey Mysterio would compete at the Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27. The Ultimate Underdog has been shooting down the rumors of his WWE return since he appeared at the company’s Royal Rumble PPV back in January.

While he has yet to officially sign with the company, talks continue as the WWE have been wanting him on a full-time schedule since his appearance at the Royal Rumble in which he had the biggest pop of the night. However, they haven’t been able to come to terms because Mysterio only wants to work a part-time schedule.

With countless knee surgeries in his career, the 43-year old wants a lighter schedule, which is completely understandable. For now, the two sides have yet to come to an agreement, but Mysterio will definitely show up for Greatest Royal Rumble.

If he does sign, he won’t be appearing on a regular basis until later in the year, as he is scheduled to appear for a handful of promotions throughout the summer, including New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he’s working towards matches with Jushin Thunder Liger and Will Ospreay.
