The View from Down Under: SummerSlam – Rhodes Or Sandow Need To Steal The Show

With the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Sheamus, CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio constantly battling for either the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship over the past 2 years, many serious wrestling fans constantly complain about the lack of push of other talented performers.

The problem is that there have been many WWE superstars who have been given a chance but have failed to grab the attention of the WWE fans. The likes of Jack Swagger, for example has now twice been given the opportunity to cement himself as a main player, and twice has failed to deliver. While Alberto Del Rio has been given nearly 2 years of opportunities but still has not grabbed the imagination of the WWE universe.

There are those however who have been given their moment to deliver, and have taken it all the way to the top of the WWE. CM Punk did it with ‘that’ promo in 2011, Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage did it with ‘that’ match at Wrestlemania III against Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat, Shawn Michaels showed what he could do in the first Ladder match against Razor Ramon, and Stone Cold Steve Austin burst into the main event picture after his performance against Brett Hart in the submission match at Wrestlemania 13. Even just a couple of weeks ago Daniel Bryan showed he belonged at the top and moved well and truly away from the mid-card scene with his performance in the gauntlet match on 22 July episode of RAW. These superstars were given a chance to show the WWE and us fans that they were ready for the next step, and they delivered on their opportunity.

On August 18 at WWE Summer Slam I feel either Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow or both WWE superstars have been given their opportunity to show us they are ready to break free from the mid-card congestion and give us ‘their moment’ in their upcoming match. They have be given plenty of air time to develop their feud and have done a fantastic job with that so far. Cody Rhodes has taken his momentum he gained at MITB, and increased it over the past couple of weeks, with some good performances in the ring, on the mic and back stage. Damien Sandow is starting to show the intensity, which he needed to show us, as I feel it was the one thing lacking in his all-round package. Both WWE superstars are talented in the ring, and together have the potential and skill level to steal the show at Summer Slam.

The scene is now set for both WWE superstars, what happens to their respective careers will be determined by what they deliver on August 18. Give us something fantastic and climb to the upper level of the WWE, fail to produce and return to mid-card mediocrity.

rhodes and Sandow

If they produce a match of quality such as Macho Man v Steamboat, or Bret Hart v Austin or Shawn Michaels v Razor Ramon, then we will have 2 more WWE superstar in the main event scene, which will only be better for us fans and the WWE product.

Hooroo and See ya next week
