Arn Anderson revealed that Vince McMahon buried AJ Styles against Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 32 to ‘test’ him.
Anderson said on The Arn Show, “Of course, of course [Vince McMahon booked Styles to lose to see his reaction]. Not the fact that you slow down his progress and ability to help the company. I never saw anybody, Conrad [podcast host Conrad Thompson], let me just make this statement. I never saw anybody in the history of my time in this business that lost his way into getting over. Name one. Any historians out there, name one and I will gladly bow my head and go, ‘I stand corrected.’”
“You have to win and you have to get momentum and you have to be in some wars and you have to earn your way and you have to beat some guys that you’re not supposed to beat to be in a position to draw money, and all this did is stall AJ Styles, I think, who a lot of people would say is as good as there is.”
Triple H told Pardon My Take about Vince, “Look, Vince is incredible. And you can say, in every level, he’s 75+, his work ethic is greater than anybody I’ve ever seen. Still to this day, he’s in the office first thing in the day, he’s there all day, he’s meeting with writers till 1 in the morning, 2 in the morning, and he goes downstairs and trains, his trainer is there at ungodly hours.
He goes downstairs at 2 AM and gets after it. He doesn’t sleep that much, still trains like that, still eats – very particular about his food, he’s just a machine. He’s just a very disciplined person and his work ethic is second to none. It’s most people that work in this company, I think long term, there’s just a burnout factor.
