WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle had announced his retirement in 2019. However, a potential return to WWE cannot be ruled out. It turns out that his plans with WWE were recently nixed.

WWE cancels Kurt Angle return

Fightful Select reported that ahead of the Royal Rumble, Angle was being discussed for a potential return to WWE TV, which the legendary pro-wrestler himself confirmed. It was also reported that he was in St. Louis to film content, as well as to meet with WWE officials. However, Angle himself revealed that those plans have been nixed.

Fightful also reported that ‘The Olympic Gold Medalist’ was originally planned to be involved in the feud between RKBro and the WWE RAW Tag-Team Champions Alpha Academy. It was noted that there were pitches that the academic challenge would even be the “Three Is Challenge,” playing off of Angle’s wrestling days. There were also discussions regarding Angle serving as a special guest referee in Saudi Arabia at the Elimination Chamber event as well. But, that did not materialize.

Kurt Angle reacts to WrestleMania 38 rumors

During the latest episode of “The Kurt Angle Show” podcast, Angle revealed that he was never booked for WrestleMania 38 as the rumors stated otherwise:

“There are a lot of rumors going around that I was supposed to be booked for Wrestlemania 38, which is not true at all. If you saw the posts, a lot of people thought that I was talking about WrestleMania when I was talking about what I was going to do at the Royal Rumble and have the program for a few weeks. Then the blow-off would be in Saudi Arabia, where I would referee the match between RK-Bro and Alpha Academy.”

WWE are officially on the Road to WrestleMania and they might be eyeing some surprises for the fans. We will have to see if WWE plans to work out some ideas for Angle to make an appearance at WrestleMania 38.
