Vince McMahon Got Big Name To ‘Destroy’ AEW

Vince McMahon has a mind that only few understand and even those few may not understand it as heavily as they think they do. Since the beginning of AEW, many have called the brand a direct competitor to any and everything that includes the hands of Vince McMahon in the pot. Now, whether there actually is/was a war isn’t very clear. What is clear is what Vince McMahon took a step forward to do…AEW Dynamite results April 21.

Dave Meltzer on Twitter cleared the air quite a bit when it came to any potential war between WWE and AEW. As many users had thought before, WWE’s NXT was supposedly moved due to AEW beating them in ratings for all but a couple of weeks which had many speculating a second coming of a WCW takeover. This wasn’t exactly the case however as Dave Meltzer cleared up.

The Twitter saga started when multiple users went back and forth speaking about the choice WWE had made to move NXT so it would no longer competing with AEW. One user, in the middle of it all, stated: “The decision wasn’t Vince’s like people make it out to be. It’s NBC who bought the rights for NXT and programmed it against TNT’s program AEW.”

Dave Meltzer chose the above statement to respond to as he said: “It was a favor to Vince. And it was only moved because the NHL deal (which didn’t end up happening, the NHL went to Turner) is more important to NBC than the favor.”

There we have it. Laid to rest at last. It looks like the choice to move NXT wasn’t all about AEW.
