WWE’s television programming often emphasizes that the card is always subject to change, and this was evident in the recent episode of RAW, which saw a few alterations to the planned lineup. One of the notable changes involved the NXT Women’s Title open challenge originally intended for Tegan Nox, but it was Natalya who ultimately answered the challenge. The decision behind this change has now come to light.
According to information obtained by Ringside News from a seasoned member of the WWE team, the decision to replace Tegan Nox with Natalya was rooted in the desire to avoid featuring a title match with a competitor who had been off television for an extended period. This was especially pertinent given that it was the first time the NXT Women’s Title was being defended on RAW. As a result, Vince McMahon, the chairman and CEO of WWE, made the call to make this adjustment.
The rationale behind this decision was to enhance the prestige of the NXT Women’s Title by having a well-known veteran like Natalya contend for it. While Tegan Nox did not participate in the title match on RAW, she still had the opportunity to wrestle during the show, as her match was taped for the Main Event program.
It’s worth noting that Tegan Nox had not appeared on RAW since her involvement in a WWE Women’s Tag Team Title #1 Contendership Turmoil match on July 3rd. Despite her absence from the main RAW programming, she remained injury-free and continued to work on Main Event tapings during that time.
