WWE had planned to bring in some teams from NXT to compete in a tournament to crown the new Women’s Tag Team Champions. It was announced that a tournament would be held for the vacated title. However, further details regarding the tournament are yet to be confirmed.
WWE seemingly nixes plans
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez reported that WWE hasn’t revealed any plans for the Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament. Meltzer said:
“That women’s tag team tournament is like dead now. Yeah, not a word. They had an idea for four women’s teams whatever they end up being. It was pitched but it was never signed off on as of like a week ago. Now, I have no idea what’s going on, it’s like not a word.”
Sasha Banks and Naomi had walked out of Monday Night RAW due to creative differences. Pat McAfee recently spoke about the matter as well. There have been various sides to the story already reported, including that the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions confronted WWE Chairman Vince McMahon over their issue. WWE left that part out of their official narrative, but Banks and Naomi did have words with the boss. In the official statement from the company, it was noted that Sasha Banks and Naomi dropped their tag titles on the desk of John Laurinaitis and left the building. It has been speculated that Banks and Naomi reportedly won’t be fired.
It has been recently noted on Friday Night SmackDown that Sasha Banks and Naomi have also been indefinitely suspended from WWE and had their WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles stripped. Even their merchandise was pulled from the online shop. We will see when they are actually put back in the fray.
