Vince McMahon replaces Kofi Kingston with returning superstar for WWE Title match at Fastlane

Daniel Bryan Kofi Kingston Fastlane

Last week, it was revealed that veteran Kofi Kingston would challenge Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at the upcoming PPV event, WWE Fastlane. However, Vince McMahon stepped in to make a sudden change, shocking the WWE Universe and the New Day.

Kingston had an impressive showing the SmackDown Live before Elimination Chamber, replacing Mustafa Ali in a gauntlet match prior to the event. At the PPV, Kingston fought well, managing to end up one of the last two competitors in the chamber alongside Bryan. Though he would ultimately lose there, he would earn an opportunity during last week’s SmackDown Live.

Tonight, Kingston and Bryan were supposed to sign a contract to make the Fastlane match official. However, just before they could get things underway, Vince McMahon interrupted. McMahon decided it would be best for business to replace Kingston with the returning Kevin Owens. Owens stormed down to the ring and signed the contract as the New Day vented their frustrations behind him.

Now, at Fastlane, Daniel Bryan will defend his WWE Championship against the former Universal Champion.

An like I also notice Vince Mac doesn’t sound well. Something is wrong with him health wise.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

Batista didn’t just show up to attack Ric Flair for nothing Vince Mac has sent him. Vince Mac can’t get in the ring anymore so he has to have Batista do it.

I think the whole Vince Mac coming out changing match is a work. Been say for a while Vince Mac is stepping down after WM 35. He just showing us the his time in done an much like other great in the past he going to go out with a big ending.

  • I’m not sure it even needs to be seen as a heel turn.

  • CC

Well that was their original gimmick.

Not sure I see WWE turning New Day heel again. Unless they decide to split them up, I can see New Day being the Cena of the tag division where they sell too much merch to kids to turn them heel.

The reign of terror. I remember it well. I think John Cena’s consecutive almost multi year title reigns softened people’s memories of Trips world title run. Hell, looking back on it I would rather have the reign of terror than the Brock Lesnar hostage reign we have now.

I find it ironic that many fans feel “HHH can do no wrong” these days, when many of those same fans probably felt he was THE main guy backstage holding other stars down not 10-15 years ago.

Angry black group being held down by “The Man”, instead of goofy happy black group being held down by “The Man”?

It’s setting up an angle so he has a reason to focus on XFL when HHH relieves him of duty.

  • stephen mccord

I can see HHH pulling the “you are going senile, and need to step down” card. It will make those who think Vince is out of touch, and HHH can do no wrong happy.

  • stephen mccord

It’s the perfect angle. Kofi was going to loose anyways, and the “I wanna believe” movement would be dead by Monday.

This allows us to hold on hope, for a WrestleMania win. Maybe some form of triple threat or fatal four way at Mania, or maybe Kofi will win it in a singles match.

This was the right call as it will move Kofi to Mania, and deepen the fans resolve in seeing him win the belt.

This still feels like the end of Vince Mac at WM 35 and I think the WWE fans are starting to feel it to. It why Vince Mac is still getting a pop. I thought this way every since he said he was bringing back the XFL and we he first return saying there was going to be a shake up it sounded to me that Vince is not feeling well.

  • Perhaps New Day will come out and just lay waste to Owens and Bryan, setting up a triple threat at WM. It gives Kofi his match and also puts a new spin on New Day.

Wtf is Vince doing?….this is the second title match he’s changed.

  • CC

I do not see Kofi not getting his title match somewhere along the line, and maybe this is actually setting him up for the WrestleMania match that people wanted before the Fastlane match was announced.
But with the whole Becky thing as well, this story is going to get old very fast if Vince keeps pulling this stuff.

What a way to end Black History Month.
