Vince McMahon replaces Kofi Kingston with returning superstar for WWE Title match at Fastlane

Last week, it was revealed that veteran Kofi Kingston would challenge Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at the upcoming PPV event, WWE Fastlane. However, Vince McMahon stepped in to make a sudden change, shocking the WWE Universe and the New Day.

Kingston had an impressive showing the SmackDown Live before Elimination Chamber, replacing Mustafa Ali in a gauntlet match prior to the event. At the PPV, Kingston fought well, managing to end up one of the last two competitors in the chamber alongside Bryan. Though he would ultimately lose there, he would earn an opportunity during last week’s SmackDown Live.

Tonight, Kingston and Bryan were supposed to sign a contract to make the Fastlane match official. However, just before they could get things underway, Vince McMahon interrupted. McMahon decided it would be best for business to replace Kingston with the returning Kevin Owens. Owens stormed down to the ring and signed the contract as the New Day vented their frustrations behind him.

Now, at Fastlane, Daniel Bryan will defend his WWE Championship against the former Universal Champion.
