Hell In A Cell pay-per-view turned out to be a complete debacle for the management. In a time where they needed to be vigilant with AEW’s rise, WWE could not satisfy its fans. The main event of Bray Wyatt vs. Seth Rollins bore the brunt of it as the bout was met with an extremely negative response from the live audience. The fans retaliated over the finish by chanting “AEW”, “Refund” and plenty more.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon was reportedly laughing upon witnessing the reaction of the California crowd. A company source noted that McMahon saw the adverse reaction as a positive since it indicated that the fans are invested in the storyline and it also gives them a chance to rebuild on the feud.
Aftermath the event it was reported that the idea of finish was different but it was decided that Rollins would hold onto the title since McMahon wanted Rollins, Lynch and Charlotte Flair as the main champions heading into the draft.
