Vince McMahon Told To ‘Fire’ Smackdown Champion

John Cena Sr. recently joined Dan Mirade of Boston Wrestling MWF for an interview. He went on to reflect on WWE star Sasha Banks’ request to depart WWE back in 2019 and said WWE Chairman Vince McMahon should have considered to fire her.

John Cena Sr. would have fired Sasha Banks

John Cena’s father opined that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon should have fired Sasha Banks when she wanted to leave. Banks and Bayley had lost the Women’s Tag Team Championship to The IIconics in a Fatal 4-Way match at WrestleMania 35 and

Following the event, The Boss had a talk with Vince and requested to part ways with the company. Vince had given her 30 days to consider her options instead. But, after taking a brief hiatus of four month, Banks made his  comeback to WWE in August 2019.

He said:

“If she refused to do the job [lose a match] or does the job and then says, ‘I’m gonna quit,’ in the words of the great Vince McMahon, I would say, ‘You don’t have to quit, you’re fired.’”

He added:

“You know what, let me put it to you this way. Vince is a very intelligent man, he’s not where he is by being a fool. To give her what he gave her, that extension on time [additional time off after the 30-day agreement], says a lot about the man recognizing the talent.”

John Cena Sr. wanted to clarify that he likes Sasha Banks but there is no offense to her. But, he said that she should have handled things in a different way.

Vince McMahon takes the final call on everything in WWE but it has led to WWE’s on-screen product jokingly being referred to as “Vince McMahon’s sandbox.”

John Cena Sr. also said that McMahon should have thrown Sasha Banks “out of the sandbox” in order to make space for other stars.

Banks is set  to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 37 on April 10-11.
