Vince McMahon’s reason for Summerslam match taking place early

Vince McMahon reportedly disliked the script for this week’s Smackdown Live, so a lot of changes were made under his direction.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that one of the changes that were made involved the Aleister Black vs Sami Zayn match. The match was initially going to be taking place at Summerslam, but Vince McMahon’s reason for holding the match early was an odd one, to say the least.

According to Meltzer, the Aleister Black and Sami Zayn match was done early due to Vince McMahon’s last-minute “tearing apart” of SmackDown. After Vince was done, there was an hour left to fill and one of the ideas was just to put on the Aleister Black vs Sami Zayn match on TV. This is why the match was moved to TV off the PPV.

So after Vince McMahon was done scrapping plans for the show, there was only an hour of programming done.
