Wrestling Inc. owner Raj Giri and Wrestling Observer owner Dave Meltzer had a back and forth about NXT and wrestling’s today product quality.
XAshleyAllen tweeted, “You’re right, NXT has the best match quality in today’s wrestling alongside NJPW.”
Raj Giri responded, “I’ve always given -3 fucks about match quality. I’m not going to convince my friends to watch Creed 2 because there’s a 5 star fight . Let’s get back to stuff that people care about. Catering to the hardcores will ultimately kill the business.”
Dave Meltzer shot back, “It’s become a talking point for people who listen to people who don’t pay attention. WWE has never been about match quality and has declined. Non-WWE is the most popular its been in 20 years. Providing great matches has been a key in that growth.”
“Great matches have never been the be-all in any combat sport when it comes to popularity, great personalities has always been. That said, great matches have never been as important in growth of company and of the talent itself.”
When asked if he was taking a shot at Giri, Meltzer said, “It’s a shot at anyone who buys the idea it’s all aimed at hardcores and that’s why it’s not popular. Because it’s not all aimed at hardcores and parts of the business pre-pandemic were growing. The sky isn’t falling although some people want to say it is.”
