During a conversation with The Sun about their parenting approach, Will Smith stated that the couple did not believe in punishing their children for their mistakes. However, Willow Smith explained a different kind of punishment that she experienced from her parents. In a Red Table Talk episode where fans asked each of the family members a question, Willow Smith was asked whether she thought parents punishing kids was necessary. In her response, Smith revealed one punishment that was particularly difficult for her. She said via ET:
“OK, for me, disappointment is punishment. I respect my parents so much that disappointment is like a knife in my heart. I want to be a person that my parents want to look at, that my parents are proud of.”
