Hoda Kotb has teased some major revelations in her upcoming interview with Jada Pinkett-Smith, which will focus on Jada and her husband Will Smith, their long-lasting marriage, and the infamous Oscars slap incident. During a recent segment on “Today,” Hoda mentioned that she had learned “shocking developments” during the interview, piquing the interest of her co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin.

The interview will delve into the controversial moment when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards in response to a joke about Jada’s hair loss. Hoda revealed that Jada was sitting next to Will during the incident and offers a different perspective on what transpired. She explains what she saw from her viewpoint, shedding light on why the incident occurred.

Savannah emphasized that the interview is filled with “a lot of surprises,” to which Hoda nodded in agreement.

I learned some shocking developments which I was unaware of.

“She [Jada] was sitting next to Will during that Oscars slap. She has a different perspective. People kept asking why did it happen? She actually weighs in and explains what she saw from her perspective.”

The NBC News primetime special is timed to precede the release of Jada’s memoir, ‘Worthy,’ and promises to provide insights and revelations about the couple’s life, their relationship, and the highly publicized Oscars moment.

At the 2022 Oscars, Will initially laughed at the joke about Jada’s hair loss but later apologized to Chris Rock, admitting he was “out of line and wrong.” He explained that seeing his wife mocked for her alopecia was emotionally overwhelming for him, leading to his emotional reaction. The incident received widespread attention, and it sparked discussions about violence and the boundaries of humor.

The interview promises to shed more light on the incident and provide Jada’s perspective on the matter. The NBC News primetime special is scheduled to air on Friday, October 13, at 8 p.m. ET.
