WWE apparently allowing Superstars more freedom in promos

Paul Heyman became the Executive Director of RAW last year and with his appointment, many changes were made. Some of the changes were clearly for the better.

On The Steve Austin Show, Jerry Lawler talked about Paul Heyman and how he changed things due to his role on RAW. Ever since Heyman took charge, Superstars have been given more leeway in their promos and have been able to display their personalities.

“Now that Paul Heyman is sort of in charge of RAW, it’s so much not the characters that are being predetermined by the writers or creative. They’re giving the guys a chance to be themselves just like [Austin was] back when [Austin] became ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. Nobody was telling you, ‘oh, this is how it [has] got to be.’ [Austin was himself] and [he] was given that opportunity and [Austin] took it.”

Despite all that, WWE is still heavily scripted in their promos. Vince McMahon has the last say in everything that goes on in the company and that includes the promos. However, it is good to know that the company trusts some Superstars and gives them freedom.
