Earlier today it was announced that the WWE set up Becky Lynch vs Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the upcoming Royal Rumble event. Asuka won the title in a Triple Threat TLC match featuring Charlotte Flair and Lynch, who was the champion at the time.
During the company’s Network series Main Event, the match was announced. However, it seems that it was an error by the company, as the match is no longer taking place.
Former SmackDown Live General Manager Paige revealed on Twitter today that the match wasn’t happening.
Soooo I tried to make one last match before my time as #SDLive GM came to end…but unfortunately @BeckyLynchWWE vs. @WWEAsuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship is NOT official for #RoyalRumble. #Oops

Paige took the blame kayfabe wise saying that it was her attempt at making one final match before her role as SmackDown GM was over.
