WWE Co-President comments on the launch of AEW

Top WWE officials including Vince McMahon and more recently held a media conference call to discuss the company’s financial performance in 2018.

During the call, they discussed how WWE has seen a record revenue for the 5th year in a row and the officials also touted their shows in Saudi Arabia and Australia.

When a caller asked about the launch of a “new wrestling organization” WWE Co-President George Barrios responded by saying that it’s too early to say anything:

“Yeah, too early to tell. We wouldn’t talk about specifics of that, from our perspective, we think we are the premier global organization with the greatest wrestlers in the world, one of the greatest platforms. We have a lot of confidence in our ability to manage that.”

While it’s too early to say what kind of effect AEW will have on WWE’s business, with signings like Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega, it’s surely a product worth keeping an eye on.

You sound like the type of person who buys into the whole “continue to push people who draw, and don’t build new stars” and then wonder why there are no new stars

  • Nicholas Giambattista

I think because that just me because it more popular today then even the WWE sometimes. But I most likely wrong it just you see NXT getting bigger and bigger every year.

Why would he want to rename NXT ? What leads you to believe that he wants to change something that isn’t broken ?

  • Nicholas Giambattista

Let me say for the record I was a WCW fan Speacilly when Hulk Hogan jumpship from WWF to WCW that change everything. Then came WCW Monday Nitro an the Monday Night Wars those were some good times. Where WCW mess up is they didn’t push there young talent an boy did WCW have a lot of talent.

But today WWE is more then ready for a little company like AEW. I wish I could say it have a chance and hey maybe we are wrong. But with WWE talent pool thanks to NXT it going to be harder for anybody to go up against WWE. It not just Vince McMahon anymore either HHH has a vision for the WWE. I believe he wants to rename WWE NXT someday because that what the wrestling fans love right now.

I honestly don’t think Vince is losing any sleep over AEW at all. At this point AEW is an overhyped independent promotion that will probably get a TV deal on the Cartoon Network and will have a TNA 2.0 feel about it and function like WCW.

We will see about that, what happens if AEW is getting higher ratings than WWE, well if Vince McMahon continues to disregard what the fans wants, well it’s all his fault. This PG wrestling is no longer helping, they need a cutting edge TV-14 atmosphere

  • BROKENMatt_Hardy

    Vince fears AEW

  • Nicholas Giambattista

With WWE becoming more global it helping the company make more money. Which will lead to bigger contract. But WWE is actually making the WWE bigger then the wrestlers.
