It was recently revealed that the WWE made a major error and screw up during their 2021 Hall of Fame Induction ceremony. During the ceremony for the Hall of Fames’ ‘Legacy’ wing, which focuses on inductees from several eras of wrestling history, going back to the early 20th century. Wrestling Observer Radio pointed out that footage used in a package highlighting newly Legacy wing inductee, African American legend Ethel Johnson was incorrect. This top WWE superstars’ ‘backside’ photos recently leaked at the WWE Hall of Fame.
Johnson was noted to for being one of the first prominent African-American female wrestlers from the 1950s and 1960. However, during Johnson’s package, WWE used footage from another prominent and legendary African-American female wrestler, Sandy Parker. It is unclear why WWE chose to use Parker’s footage in the page or why the error was made to begin with. Needless to say, this was a major botch, even if not intentional.
Members of the WWE universe took to the Squared Circle subreddit to react to this colossal mistake. One Redditer by the name of MC_Fuzzy stated: “Stories like this makes me wonder how HOF is presented. I can’t find the right words, but an honor like this should be told to family members, but if you’re not doing so, but rather the fans/workers, it feels off. Like, I do look at WWE’s HoF as an accolade, I don’t really think it’s a joke as some may say. But why not treat it as a serious thing behind the scenes, if that makes sense. ” While StopLookingBuy stated: “I’m not sure that I’m a big fan of the Legacy wing to begin with. It feels, presented as, and treated like a throwaway thing. They probably figured no one even paid attention to the legacy inductees. They should just be considered award winners like the Warrior award.”
