WWE have come to an agreement to set forth the release of referee Drake Wuertz from his NXT contract today. This comes at no real surprise as Drake caused a lot of issues from his political beliefs which offended many.
Drake had worked last night’s episode of NXT after missing the previous week so he could speak at a school board meeting against mask mandates, all the while he spouted unfounded QAnon conspiracy theories during the meeting as well.
While Wuetz’s own Wikipedia page was edited last week to note that he was fired for political reasons, that was not confirmed. WWE gave “budget cuts” as the reason for every release today. If you have been following WWE for any amount of time, you would know to read between those lines…
According to PW Insider, Drake Wuertz is already pounding the pavement as he looks for work elsewhere, with companies like AEW and Impact Wrestling being his only other options. There’s no official word as to where he will end up or if anyone – let alone AEW will take the risk of backlash by taking him.
