WWE Hall of Famer fired from the company after 36 years

WWE has fired Hall of Famer Gerald Brisco from the company after 36 years of service. Brisco has been working as talent scout and recruiter for WWE since 2010. He joined the company as part of The Brisco Brothers in 1984. But the team retired only a year after and Brisco was recruited in a backstage role at the company.

Gerald Brisco revealed the news in a tweet from his official account that he has been fired by WWE. It can be assumed that the decision comes as a part of cost-cutting because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gerald Brisco addresses his WWE lay off

Brisco shared that last night he got a all from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon informing him that he was fired from the company. He said he was okay with the decision and he would still be around to help the talent if needed.

“Ok, want to get this out the right way. Last night I received a call from @wwe Chairman Of The board @VinceMcMahon to let me know after 36 years of dedication to @wwe i am (sic) no longer needed. I’m ok with this. I will still be around to help talent. More info will follow. Thanks.”

In a following tweet, Brisco added that he would like to have a little space right now before giving any interview. He also clarified that he has no anger because of the decision, but definitely a lot of emotions at the moment.

“I appreciate all the well wishes I would also like to add that I need a little space so everyone asking for an interview at this time I need to step back take a deep breath just remember I have no anger just emotions at this time.”

It was reported earlier in April that Brisco had been released from his WWE contract. But Brisco clarified that he had just been furloughed, not fired. However, now it seems that he has been removed from his position as an agent from the company.

More releases to be expected

WWE already released a large number of talents and employees back in April to meet budget requirements. According to a report by PWInsider, WWE is set to let go a number of employees later today. Whether the cutback will include Superstars as well as staffs and producers is still unknown. The magnitude of the release is not clear either.
