WWE has banned announcers from saying term related to Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho left WWE and eventually went on to sign with AEW. Vince McMahon did not take kindly to this decision. Jericho was subsequently removed from WWE’s opening introduction video and he has not been mentioned ever since. One of his popular finishing moves also seems to have been banned from ever being mentioned.

Jericho has been using his Codebreaker finishing manoeuvre for several years during his career. Several other wrestlers now use that move as well, but it is not called the Codebreaker in WWE anymore.

According to a report The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the term “Codebreaker” is still banned in the company. This explains why the WWE commentary team make no mention of it its during shows. This was seen during this week’s RAW, where Asuka hit the move but its name was not mentioned.

Asuka made a hot tag and hit a codebreaker, which, by the way, is a term the announcers are banned from using.

WWE makes sure to never mention wrestlers in other promotions in order to avoid endorsing or promoting those wrestlers.
