Damian Priest defended the NXT North American Championship against Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver 31. He was successful in retaining his title against Gargano in what was a very hard-hitting affair.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Melter talked about Damian Priest and Gargano’s role in the match. Meltzer revealed they view Priest as someone who has a lot of potential and Gargano was someone who would help him get there. The match went over as intended, with Gargano putting over Priest and making him look great in the process.
It was also noted that NXT is “doing the right thing” with Damian Priest currently. However, owing to WWE’s history of booking top NXT Superstars in the main roster, fans are still sceptical whether Priest will truly be a top star.
We will have to see whether WWE manages to make him a true star and book him properly.
