WWE could soon have a show for Lucha Libre style of wrestling

WrestlingInc recently reported that the company has been discussing a Mexican Lucha Libre series. It would be an NXT Mexico “of sorts.”

As per the reports, the show is set to air in the U.S. The company has discussed the plan with a few people about running the project and it is in very early stages, still developing.

One of the biggest names being considered as a consultant on the project is a former starod the company, Chavo Guerrero Jr. Chavo was previously an agent for Lucha Underground and was very involved with the promotion. Thus he could play an important role in the formation of the new show.

One source compared the project to the WCW Telemundo “Festival de Lucha” pilot that was taped in Waco, Texas on January 27, 1999 that never aired. The pilot was added to the “Hidden Gems” section of the WWE Network last year.

WWE is trying to expand their business in international markets. The company had launched NXT UK in 2018, and has been considering creating NXT brands in several other countries as well.

The company is also eyeing to formulate a minor league of the gold and black brand as well which was also reported earlier.
