WWE RAW Results (9/16): Knoxville, TN

The September 16th, 2019 edition of WWE RAW took place at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, TN.

 


 

– WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins comes out to the ring to kick off tonight’s show. Seth says he’s disappointed they lost their RAW Tag Team Titles, but he’s focused on the future, and he’s still got his Universal Title. Bray Wyatt interrupts from the big screen with another episode of the Firefly Fun House. Bray says he’s got his eyes on the Championship, and might have even more to say to Rollins tonight. The screen flashes between Bray and The Fiend, then Bray laughs and says “see you in Hell.”

– Michael Cole teases Gable vs. Corbin tonight, and Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs. Sasha Banks & Bayley. The promo graphics are upside down in an apparently technical error.

– We cut from the upside-down promo graphics to the backstage area. Braun is storming through the arena hallways and says the next person in the ring is going to get these hands.

– RAW Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode come out to the ring, and SmackDown Tag champs The Revival join them. They will be having a “tag team summit,” and Roode starts talking about how great they are. Braun Strowman comes out to interrupt. Strowman drops Wilder and Dawson at ringside, then he hits the ring. Strowman drops Ziggler, and Roode retreats to ringside. Roode helps Ziggler to his feet on the floor, then Braun rolls out of the ring. Braun runs around the ring and tackles Wilder, Dawson, and Ziggler, but Roode is able to escape.

– We see Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross backstage drinking coffee. They take turns trashing Sasha Banks and Bayley before we go to break.

The OC (AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows) vs. The Viking Raiders & Cedric Alexander: Cedric connects with some kicks on AJ in the opening moments of this one. Anderson and Erik tag in, then Ivar tags in for the double team on Anderson. Erik tags back in, and Gallows tags in now too. Gallows dumps Erik out to ringside where The OC double teams him. Ivar gets the hot tag and starts cleaning house now. Cedric tags in and hits a flying clothesline on Anderson, but Gallows comes in and drops him. The aprons clear into the ring, then everyone fights out to ringside. When the dust settles, AJ hits the Phenomenal Forearm on Cedric for the three count.

Winners: The OC

– After the match, The Viking Raiders brawl with Gallows and Anderson in the ring, and then they fight out to the ramp. Ivar comes flying off the top with a swanton bomb onto Gallows and Anderson at ringside. Ivar hit the floor hard on that one. AJ and Cedric go at it in the ring now. Cedric looks for a Frankensteiner in the corner, but AJ reverses it into a Styles Clash off the middle rope.

– We see footage from earlier today of R-Truth, Carmella, and Glenn (Kane) Jacobs at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

Chad Gable vs. Baron Corbin: This is the final match in the King Of The Ring tournament. Gable takes Corbin down by the leg off the opening bell. Gable fakes out Corbin with another takedown and then puts him in a front face lock. Corbin breaks free and drops Gable with a right hand. Corbin works over Gable and keeps him grounded now. Gable fights back and dumps Corbin at ringside. Gable rolls outside and charges at Corbin on the floor, but Corbin sends him flying with a back body drop into the timekeeper’s area. Back in the ring, Corbin continues the offense on Gable. Gable fights back and hits a missile dropkick off the top. Gable hits some cannonball splashes in the corner, until Corbin blocks one and slams him down. Corbin misses a shot at ringside and crashes into the ring steps. Gable starts working over Corbin’s knee now. Gable looks for a shot off the ropes but Corbin stops him with the Deep Six. Corbin is unable to follow up and Gable drops him with a German suplex for a two count. They scramble on the mat and Gable locks in the ankle lock, but Corbin is able to reach the ropes to break the hold. Corbin fights back and hits the End Of Days for the three count.

Winner & new King Of The Ring tournament winner: Baron Corbin

– Corbin takes his place on the throne as the 2019 King Of The Ring winner.

– Back from the break, the Street Profits are hosting Maria & Mike Kanellis’ baby gender reveal party. Maria says her baby’s gender is a boy. Maria then says that the true father of her baby is Ricochet. Mike gets in Ricochet’s face, and Ricochet says clearly she’s lying. Mike slaps Ricochet across the face and tells him to meet him in the ring. Mike storms off. Titus tells Ricochet to go out to the ring and do something, and the Street Profits crack some jokes about Maria.

Mike Kanellis vs. Ricochet: The opening bell sounds, but Ricochet tries to reason with Mike and explain to him that Maria is lying. Mike slaps Ricochet across the face, then punches him down and stomps on him. Ricochet finally fights back and drops Mike with a version of The Codebreaker for the three count.

Winner: Ricochet

– It’s time for another installment of Bray Wyatt’s Firefly Fun House. Wyatt is hanging up pictures of the people he’s given the mandible claw to. Wyatt says it’s time for him to find some more friends.

– Back from the break, Mike Kanellis is sitting on the ring apron, and Maria comes out to the stage and cuts a promo on him. She asks what it’ll take to motivate Mike, and she says obviously Ricochet is not the father. Maria says she will reveal the real father now – and then Rusev comes out. Lana is nowhere in sight. Rusev hits the ring and Mike tries to reason with him. Mike says he’s had a bad day, and he’s not looking to have another match. Mike says if Rusev is the father of Maria’s child, then congratulations. Rusev chases Mike around the ring and clotheslines him at ringside. Rusev throws Mike into the barricade and then into the timekeeper’s area. Back in the ring, the ref calls for the opening bell.

Rusev vs. Mike Kanellis: Rusev starts off with a big boot on Mike. Rusev then applies The Accolade and Mike taps out.

Winner: Rusev

– We see some pre-taped footage from the University of Tennessee with R-Truth, Glenn Jacobs and Carmella. Jacobs shows Truth the football field, and then a referee shows up. Truth goes to escape, but he runs into the goal post. Jacobs pins him for the three count, and Glenn Jacobs is now the 24/7 Champion.

– Sasha Banks and Bayley are shown backstage getting ready for their tag match.

Rey Mysterio vs. Cesaro: Cesaro cuts a brief promo before the match, then Rey knocks him off the apron and beats him at ringside. They get in the ring and the ref calls for the opening bell. Cesaro starts off strong with a European uppercut and a slam. Cesaro misses a shot in the corner and falls out to ringside. Rey looks for a dive through the ropes, but Cesaro intercepts him with an uppercut. Back in the ring, Rey fights back with a kicks, then he hits a 619 to the ribs of Cesaro. Rey follows up with a tornado DDT on the ringside floor. Back in the ring, Cesaro turns it around and tries to keep Rey grounded. Rey fights back with a piledriver, and then a springboard moonsault into a DDT. Cesaro comes back no with a big boot and the Crossface. Rey reverses it into a roll-up for a two count. Rey hits an enziguri, then he goes for the 619, but Cesaro blocks it and hits a rib breaker for a two count. Cesaro goes for a series of three vertical suplexes, but Rey reverses the third one and then hits the 619. Rey follows up with a sunset flip powerbomb for the three count.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

– We’re back in Bray Wyatt’s Firefly Fun House. He hangs a photo of Seth Rollins on the wall, and then stares into the camera as The Fiend’s face flashes across the screen.

– We go to a video package with some pre-taped statements from the Authors Of Pain, who are wearing suits now.

Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs. Sasha Banks & Bayley: This one is a non-Title match. Bayley starts off strong against Alexa, and then tags in Sasha. Bayley and Sasha trade frequent tags now to double team Alexa. Alexa finally fights back against Bayley, and then tags in Nikki for the double team. Nikki follows up with a dropkick for a two count. Bayley fights back and tags in Sasha for the double team. Sasha knocks Alexa off the apron, and then Bayley attacks Alexa on the floor too. Meanwhile in the ring, Sasha chokes Nikki in the corner while trainers check on Alexa at ringside. Bayley and Sasha double team Nikki until Nikki finally fights back. Sasha and Bayley overpower her and dump Nikki out to ringside. Back in the ring, Nikki hits a flying cross body off the top on Bayley. Nikki follows up with a tornado DDT, and then the swinging neckbreaker. Nikki pins, but Sasha breaks it up. Sasha tags herself in and hits the backstabber on Nikki. Sasha applies the Banks Statement and Nikki taps out.

Winners: Sasha Banks & Bayley

– After the match, Sasha Banks brings a steel chair in the ring, but Becky Lynch comes out for the save with a steel chair of her own. They swing the chairs around but don’t connect. Bayley gets in the ring with a steel chair next, but then Charlotte comes out to interrupt. Charlotte kicks Bayley down on the mat and then hits her with the chair. Back in the ring, Becky kicks Sasha and hit her with the steel chair.

– Back from the break, Sasha Banks is in her locker room cutting a promo. She challenges Becky to a rematch at Hell In A Cell.

– We see footage from earlier in the day of a limo pulling up to the arena, and R-Truth is riding on top of the roof. Glenn Jacobs gets out, and Truth rolls him up from behind for the three count, to reclaim his 24/7 Title.

– We see a promo from RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch backstage, and she accepts Sasha’s challenge for Hell In A Cell.

Dana Brooke vs. Lacey Evans: Lacey and Dana trade strikes in the opening moments back and forth. Dana hits a suplex for a two count, then Lacey rolls out to ringside to regroup. Dana follows her and hits some chops to the chest, then she tries to take Lacey back in the ring, but Lacey fights back and chokes Dana across the apron. Lacey follows up with a slingshot dropkick, and then some knee drops. Dana fights back, but Lacey shuts her down with a knee shot. Lacey follows up with a punch to the face, and then she applies the sharpshooter. Dana taps out for the finish.

Winner: Lacey Evans

– We see Universal Champion Seth Rollins backstage warming up for his match.

Seth Rollins vs. Robert Roode: Dolph Ziggler is at ringside in Roode’s corner. This one is a non-Title match. Rollins starts off strong and hits some knee drops on Roode. Roode fights back and dumps Rollins out to ringside. Ziggler tries to hit a cheap shot on Rolling at ringside, but Rollins cuts him off with a superkick to Ziggler’s face. Roode comes out to ringside, but Rollins grabs him and slams him into the barricade. Back in the ring, Rollins hits a sling blade on Roode. Roode starts to fight back, but Rollins shuts him down with a superkick and the curb stomp. Rollins pins, but Ziggler hits the ring and breaks it up. The ref calls for the bell.

Winner via DQ: Seth Rollins

– Ziggler and Rollins brawl in the ring after the bell. The OC comes out to the ring, and the distraction leads to Ziggler superkicking Rollins. Gallows and Anderson hit the Magic Killer on Rollins now. The OC, Roode and Ziggler all start stomping on Rollins now. Ziggler hits another superkick on Rollins, and then Kane’s music hits. The Demon Kane comes out and starts laying out everyone in his path. Kane gives Gallows a chokeslam, and then a double chokeslam on AJ and Anderson. Kane poses in the ring, but then the lights start going out and we hear The Fiend’s usual sound effects. The Fiend appears behind Demon Kane and gives him the mandible claw. The Fiend then crawls over to Rollins and gets in his face as RAW goes off the air. The Firefly Fun House graphic appears on the screen and gets warped as the broadcast officially ends.
