WWE RAW color commentatorJimmy Smith recently spoke about WWE Chairman Vince McMahon stepping down as the WWE CEO and Chairman. Stephanie McMahon will be filling in as the interim Chairman & CEO. A statement was also issued as well.
Vince got entailed in a controversial matter. The Wall Street Journal recently unveiled that WWE is investigating a secret $3 million settlement paid to a former employee of Mr. McMahon. The probe has also scooped several claims of misconduct from former employees toward The Chairman and top executive John Laurinaitis. It is not known which member leaked the story. There are twelve people on the board. Dave Meltzer discussed the source of the leak on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio. Dave was not sure who might have released the information.
Jimmy Smith talks about the matter
On his ‘Unlocking the Cage’ show on SiriusXM, Smith noted that talent is a catch-all term for anybody on television including wrestlers and commentators. The stars are in a different category because they actually wrestle. He said you go above that and its executives, who sit next to Vince.
Smith said in a production meeting, that there are only two places to sit – next to Vince or across from him. In Smith’s case, he sits across from Vince while the producers and the commentators all sit on one side and they go over the matches. Here is what he said about the controversial situation:
“What is going to get investigated over the next couple of months is the culture and the communication between the people who sit next to Vince McMahon. That is what’s gonna get looked at. Why? A culture’s hard to hide. You can hide an act. You do something and you make a mistake and you make amends for that mistake and all these things, you can do that. It’s what is going on communication-wise behind the scenes. That’s what this investigation is gonna be looking at. They’re gonna be looking at the executive culture of the WWE. The good news from my perspective is I have spent five minutes total talking to any executive from WWE. They don’t really have any reason to talk to me.”
The latest edition of WWE Smackdown kicked off with Vince McMahon coming to the ring to address the fans in a brief segment. Vince welcomed the fans to the show but did not mention anything about the situation.
