WWE reportedly do not have big plans for Daniel Bryan for the rest of the year

Daniel Bryan caused a stir by opting not to work in Saudi Arabia which caused the management to make some last minute changes. The WWE Championship match planned for the event was preponed and took place at SmackDown. AJ Styles retained the title after Bryan tapped out to the Calf Crusher.

Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that the finish of the match was not altered from what was initially planned at Crown Jewel. Moreover, it suggests that this was basically a one-off match with Styles possibly moving forward with a new opponent. Alvarez claimed:

“I am told that the finish from Smackdown last night was the Crown Jewel finish. Looks like no big plans for Daniel Bryan throughout the rest of the year.”

This also sheds a light on Bryan’s status in the eyes of the management. Despite trying out desperate measures to keep Bryan in the company, the WWE apparently don’t see the former champion as a top-tier star.

There is also a possibility that the management has not taken Bryan’s decision to work Crown Jewel well and may cause him to slide down the card.

Good IMO. I think they should keep him at mid card level, to make sure his head can hold up. No point in giving him the title or a huge storyline, if he might have another concussion. Hope he succeeds, but I think he should also take it easy

Yeah, if Bryan is not on the last 2 pay per views of the year I will be highly surprised….

John Cena is pretty much done in the WWE. He will probably do WM 35 and that probably it.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

Nobody thinks AJ Styles was dropping the WWE title to Daniel Bryan even if the match happen at Crown Jewel Styles was never dropping the WWE championship.

What a bunch of cry babies look I don’t think they were going to take the WWE championship off AJ Styles right now he is a better fit for the title.

Your 1st point explains your 2nd.

Yeah, two months is all we have left out of the year. People are making this headline into more than what it is. It’s no secret Bryan asked for more time with his family, so I could see him taking a break for the holidays.

    1. They never saw him as a “top tier star”, just like Punk, they only pushed him because he got massive fan reaction.

    2. So Cena can not work in that despot country, and get no punishment for it, but Bryan is in “hot water” with WWE for doing the same?

No big plans for two months … wow, that’s a major piece of news.

They have had next to nothing for him since he came back to the ring.
Even the feud with The Miz was not as high profile as it should have been, annoyingly interjecting wives into a feud that should have been focused on two guys with what looked like genuine heat.

He has not seriously been in the title picture since coming back, so not sure how he can slide any further than the mid card that he has mostly been in (did anyone actually think he would win against AJ this week?).
