WWE reportedly making changes to NXT Women’s Championship

Rhea Ripley

WWE has issued an internal decree to change the name of the NXT Women’s Championship to simply the NXT Championship, according to PWinsider.

This decision was reportedly made to remove the gender-specific designation of the championship of the Black and Yellow brand of the company.

This change comes after the current Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch expressed her belief that the company should stop referring to women’s division as such on the latest episode of WWE Backstage.

‘The Man’ said that the company should present everything whether it’s male or female as just wrestling. She believed that history had been made and it’s time to present things in a progressive fashion.

Though so far the title is still listed as NXT Women’s Championship on their official website. So it would be interesting to see how long does it take for this change to take effect and if the championships from Raw and SmackDown will be changed as well.

I understand her POV, clearly the Universal Title and the WWE title arent referred to as the Men’s (title) but a distinction needs to be made.

I guess a compromise is calling the men’s titles the Universal/WWE/NXT Heavyweight Championships and the women’s titles the same, minus the “Heavyweight”.
