WWE reportedly want former UFC Heavyweight Champion

WWE and FOX are reportedly looking at securing the services of a top UFC heavyweight. Daniel Cormier announced his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts after this loss to Stipe Miocic at this past weekend’s UFC 252 event.

Dave Meltzer recently reported on the Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast that WWE has interest in getting the former Heavyweight Champion under contract. Daniel Cormier is a already a huge WWE fan, so the transition would hopefully be seamless.

Although apparently it is not just WWE who are keen on having the former Champ on WWE television. FOX are looking at bringing in Daniel Cormier to the SmackDown announce desk alongside Corey Graves and Michael Cole.

Daniel Cormier on possible WWE role

Daniel Cormier has however performed announcer duties for UFC in the past, and the world’s top MMA company do not want to see him leave. It’s not confirmed what sort of role Cormier could play for the UFC going forward, but the want is there from Dana White and co to keep him around. Dave Meltzer did also mention on SNME that Cormier has made good money with UFC, and has generally set himself up well for life after cage fighting.

Cormier has made comments in the past saying that he wants to work with WWE. The UFC star spoke to BT Sport back in December and made these comments:

“I got an offer to work that new show, WWE Backstage on [FS1]. Obviously, it didn’t work with the new relationship with [UFC and] ESPN. But we are constantly trying to get me involved in the product. As a big time fan of the WWE, nothing makes me happier. I’ve got some great opportunities, man. I’m lucky. I’ve got some things outside of the octagon that’s gonna carry me for a long time.”
