WWE will start the SmackDown World Cup tournament tonight after being announced last Friday on SmackDown.
The tournament matches have yet to be announced. However, the competitors have been revealed. According to PWinsider.com, here are the planned stars for the tournament:
Braun Strowman
Shinsuke Nakamura
Sami Zayn
Santos Escobar
Rey Mysterio
Jinder Mahal
Butch
Ricochet
The tournament winner will receive a future Intercontinental title shot against current champion GUNTHER, but a date for the future match has yet to be confirmed. FOX Sports will be airing the World Cup soccer tournament this winter.
Already confirmed for SmackDown includes the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. The New Day (Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston), Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Santos Escobar, and Liv Morgan vs. Raquel Rodriguez vs. Shotzi vs. Sonya Deville vs. Lacey Evans vs. Xia Li in a six-pack challenge number one contender’s match.
Robert Roode who has been out of action due to an injury is expected to return to the ring soon. According to PW Insider, WWE has talked about Robert Roode making his return to SmackDown despite being a RAW superstar at the time of his injury. Should this happen, then it would mean an end to Roode’s Dirty Dawgs tag team with Dolph Ziggler.
