Some believed it to be kayfabe but it turns out he legitimately suffered the injury and has been sidelined.
Montez Ford was spotted in hospital
The former one half of the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions recently took to his Twitter account and shared a picture. He was seen lying on the hospital bed and added the caption: “GOD IS GOOD.”

Previously, WWE had sent out the Tweet confirming the injury:
“BREAKING: @MontezFordWWE is being evaluated at a local medical facility following @otiswwe’s vicious attack on #SmackDown.”
“Montez Ford suffered a partial rib fracture and torn intercostal cartilage, as a result of the attack by Otis. He’s being evaluated at a local medical center, and WWE Digital will follow up with any updates.”

Ford has accepted the challenge from The Alpha Academy and he had fought against Gable with both Otis and Dawkins not present on the ringside. Otis had laid a brutal attack on Dawkins backstage and they had came out in the ring to disqualify the bout.
He had hit splash twice on Ford from the second rope and that’s how the injury occured.
