The former WWE star Kairi Sane was reportedly not under the contract of WWE anymore back in December. However, it seems she is not a free agent. Dave Meltzer corrected his previous report in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter as he noted her contract doesn’t expire until February.

Kairi Sane turned down a contract offer

He said that the company wanted to re-sign her with the idea that she would return to in-ring action, but she turned it down because she didn’t want to live in the US. Sane had publicly given the impression that she wasn’t going to renew her deal. As previously reported, she recently removed “WWE” from her Instagram handle, but still has it in her Twitter username.

The company wanted to renew her deal with the idea for her to make an in-ring return, but she wasn’t interested in living in the United States again. Sane had stopped wrestling in 2020 as she returned to Japan to be with her husband and worked in an ambassador role for the company in addition to doing commentary for the Hell in a Cell 2021 PPV event. Sane recently announced that she is launching a 24-hour fitness gym, PARA-FIT24, in the Shonan Enonshima Area of Japan.

Kairi Sane hasn’t wrestled in WWE since July 2020 where she defeated Bayley on an episode of Monday Night Raw. The following week Sane was attacked backstage by Bayley, taking her out of action. It was later revealed that the star was heading back to Japan.

Sane signed with WWE in March 2017, initially competing in the first ever Mae Young Classic. The “Pirate Princess” ended up winning the tournament following victories over the likes of Bianca Belair, Dakota Kai, Toni Storm and Shayna Baszler.

Sane made her NXT debut that October, reigniting her feud with Baszler the following year. The highlight of her run on the black and gold brand came against her long-time rival at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV where she defeated Baszler to win the NXT Women’s Championship. Although her run with the gold lasted only 71 days as he lost out to Baszler at Evolution.

Sane moved to the SmackDown roster in 2019 where she joined Asuka to form the Kabuki Warriors tag team with Paige as their manager. The pair were WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions for 171 days.

We will have to wait and see what future holds for Sane in the coming days.
