WWE’s SummerSlam 2019 took place on August 11th at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON.

 


 

Kickoff Show:

– Jonathan Coachman welcomes us to the Kickoff Show, and he’s joined by Charly Caruso, Beth Phoenix and David Otunga. They run down tonight’s card, and then they throw it down to Sam Roberts and JBL at ringside. Sam and JBL introduce a video package looking at the build-up to Dolph Ziggler vs. Goldberg tonight.

– The Miz joins the Kickoff Show panel and talks about his part in the Ziggler/Goldberg setup. The Miz sticks around for a video package looking at the Kofi vs. Orton feud, and Miz picks Kofi to win tonight. They send us to JBL and Sam, and JBL says Kofi wasn’t ready 10 years ago but he’s ready now.

– We see a video package looking at the feud between Charlotte and Trish Stratus, and then we go backstage for an interview with Charlotte. Charlotte says Trish wants to re-write history, but the women’s evolution is really because of legitimate athletes like Charlotte.

– It’s time for Bray Wyatt’s Firefly Fun House. This episode is mostly a compilation of old Firefly Fun House clips and his ambush attacks on RAW, and then Wyatt starts talking about his opponent tonight, Finn Balor.

– Back at the Kickoff Show panel, Mick Foley joins to give his thoughts on Bray Wyatt as “The Fiend”, and him using Mick’s old move the Mandible Claw.

– Kevin Owens is backstage for an interview about his match against Shane McMahon tonight. Owens says this is the biggest night of his career because his career is on the line, even though Shane’s isn’t, because his last name is McMahon.

– We see AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson approach Finn Balor backstage and start hassling him. They say this is The OC’s world, and AJ is going to finish off Ricochet for good tonight. AJ says he’s been getting good luck wishes all week, but Finn is the one who might need good luck tonight. Finn says he’s not going to play Bray Wyatt’s mind games. AJ says it would be a shame if Wyatt did to Balor what he did to Mick Foley and Kurt Angle. AJ says Balor should give them the word if he needs any help during his match.

– Oney Lorcan vs. Drew Gulak (c): Gulak’s Cruiserweight Title is on the line in this one. Gulak connects with a leaping knee to Oney’s face right off the opening bell. Gulak wrestles Oney down to the mat, and the two men trade holds now until they get up to their feet and have a stare down. Oney fires up with a series of chops to the chest, but Gulak is able to take him down again and regain control of the pace. Lorcan comes back with a running blockbuster for a two count, and Gulak rolls out to ringside for a breather. Lorcan follows him out and nails the Champion with some stiff chops to the chest. Back in the ring, Gulak grabs Lorcan and applies his modified dragon sleeper, but Lorcan reaches the ropes to break the hold. They brawl back and forth in the ring now, and Lorcan grabs Gulak by the beard or face and starts slapping him. Lorcan hits a series of running elbow strikes, and the Champion is down. Gulak pulls on the ring apron, and when the ref goes to fix it, Gulak hits a shot to the throat of Lorcan. This leads to Gulak hitting the Cyclone Crash for the three count.

– Back at the Kickoff Show panel for hour two of the pre-show, Coach and Charly are now joined by WWE Hall of Famers Booker T and Jerry Lawler. Drake Maverick interrupts and talks about his trials and tribulations with the 24/7 Title and R-Truth. Drew is on the hunt for R-Truth, and he’s not leaving Canada until he gets his Title back. The camera zooms out to show Truth and Carmella hiding under the table. Truth and Carmella come out after Drake leaves and briefly talk to the panel. Drake comes back and sees Truth and starts chasing him around the table. Carmella trips Drake, then they all run off.

– Natalya is backstage for a quick interview, and she predicts she will beat Becky Lynch tonight via Sharpshooter.

– Apollo Crews vs. Buddy Murphy: We’re told this is Buddy Murphy’s first match as an official member of the SmackDown Live roster. The opening bell sounds and Murphy immediately starts off with a running knee to the face of Crews for a two count. Murphy follows up by stomping on Crews in the corner. Crews fights up and they run the ropes, and they collide in mid-air and both men are down. Crews is up first and hits an enziguri on Murphy, then he follows up with more strikes. More kicks from Crews, then he misses a shot and Murphy fires back with a kick of his own. Murphy looks for a flying cross body off the turnbuckle, but Crews catches him and hits a Samoan drop. Crews follows up with a standing moonsault for a two count. Murphy and Crews fight in the corner, and Murphy gets the upper hand with some kicks. Murphy follows up with a running powerbomb for a two count. They fight out to ringside, and Murphy throws Crews into the steel steps. Murphy gets in the ring and comes flying back out with a suicide Swanton Bomb on Crews on the ringside floor. Murphy throws Crews in the ring, but before Murphy himself can get back in, Rowan comes out of nowhere and attacks Murphy. Rowan beats down Murphy at ringside and the ref calls for the bell.

– Rowan continues to beat down Murphy, and he powerbombs Murphy into the ring post. Rowan yells at Murphy to keep his name out of his mouth. The screen cuts to backstage and we see Daniel Bryan watching on a monitor.

– Elias comes out to the ring for a song and starts trashing Toronto. WWE Hall of Famer Edge comes out to interrupt. Edge gets in the ring and hits the spear on Elias. Edge heads to the back and poses on the stage for his hometown fans.

– Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross (c) vs. The Iconics: The Women’s Tag Titles are on the line in this one. Nikki starts off strong against Billie, and then Nikki tags in for the double team. Billie turns things around, then tags in Peyton for the double team. Peyton works on keeping Nikki grounded now, and throws her down by the hair. Peyton and Billie trade frequent tags now to continue the offense on Nikki. Nikki finally fights back, and Nikki and Peyton both take each other down by the hair at the same time. Alexa and Billie tag in, and Alexa cleans house. Alexa wastes some time taunting Peyton, which leads to Billie booting her in the face. Nikki breaks up the pin attempt. Peyton tags in, but Alexa fights off the double team, and Nikki takes out Billie. PEyton misses a kick, but she connects with a backbreaker for a two count. Peyton wastes some time throwing a temper tantrum, and Alexa drops her. Alexa follows up with the Twisted Bliss for the three count.

– The Kickoff Show panel runs down the card for tonight, and now it’s time for SummerSlam 2019.

SummerSlam 2019 Results

– The broadcast opens up with a video package for SummerSlam 2019. Michael Cole welcomes us to the arena, and we go to a video package looking at the feud between Becky Lynch and Natalya.

– Becky Lynch (c) vs. Natalya:Becky’s RAW Women’s Title is on the line in this one. Becky starts off strong and stomps a mud hole in Natalya in the corner off the gate. Natalya fights back and hits a discus clothesline. Becky fires back with elbows tot he face as they trade blows in the corner. Becky hits a springboard kick, and then the t-bone suplex. They trade submission attempts on the mat until they spill out to ringside. Natalya swings Becky around and slams her into the barricade. Back in the ring, Natalya hits a suplex and then chokes Becky across the ropes. Becky fights back with kicks, but Natalya fights back with a version of the Boston Crab on the turnbuckle. They fight out to ringside again and Becky fights back by slamming Natalya into the announce table and the ring steps. Back in the ring, Natalya superplexes Becky off the top. Natalya misses a shot and Becky turns it around with Sharpshooter on Natalya. Natalya escapes Becky and puts her a version of the Disarm Her. Becky fights out, but Natalya drops her again and puts her in the Sharpshooter. Becky reaches the ropes, and reverses it into a Disarm Her. Natalya taps out for the finish.

Winner & still RAW Women’s Champion: Becky Lynch

– Becky celebrates with her Title belt and sells a sore knee from the Sharpshooter.

– Trish Stratus does a quick backstage interview about her match with Charlotte later tonight.

– We go to a video package looking at the build up to Ziggler vs. Goldberg, and Shawn Michaels’ involvement.

– Goldberg vs. Dolph Ziggler: Before the match, Ziggler gets on the mic and cuts the promo. He says legends come and go, but he is here to stay. Ziggler says Goldberg is known not to show up, and everyone knows Goldberg fears Ziggler. Goldberg’s music hits, and the WWE Hall of Famer makes his entrance down the hallways and into the ring. The opening bell sounds and Ziggler starts off immediately with two superkicks on Goldberg. Ziggler pins for a two count. Ziggler tells Goldberg to get up, and Goldberg does get up and immediately spears Ziggler. Goldberg picks up Ziggler and hits he Jackhammer for the three count after a short match.

Winner: Goldberg

– Goldberg poses on the stage after the match, and Ziggler gets a mic in the ring and calls out Goldberg. Ziggler says Goldberg has nothing on him, and that was like getting hit by a baby. Ziggler says Goldberg doesn’t have the guts to come back and fight him man to man. Goldberg walks back down to the ring and steps in. Ziggler is still down on the mat. Ziggler gets to his feet and Goldberg spears him down. Goldberg heads to the back while Ziggler is still down on the mat. Ziggler grabs the mic again and says anybody can get lucky twice. Ziggler says he knew Goldberg didn’t have the balls to face him man to man, and he never did, that’s why he was a laughing stock in this business. Ziggler says he’s the best thing going and he will never stay down. This prompts Goldberg to come back out to the ring. Goldberg slaps the mic away from Ziggler and lifts him to his feet again. Goldberg acts like he’s going to walk away, but he bounces off the ropes and nails Ziggler with another spear.

– The New Day is backstage talking about Kofi’s match tonight. Drake Maverick interrupts dressed like a rapper, then he walks off after a brief exchange with the New Day members. Kofi talks about how long he’s been waiting for Orton, and says he can’t be held down no matter what.

– We see a video package looking at the feud between Ricochet and AJ Styles.

– We see 24/7 Champion R-Truth and Carmella hiding among the international announce teams in the arena. Drake Maverick is going down the line of international announcers looking for Truth and Carmella, but they already left.

– AJ Styles (c) vs. Ricochet: AJ’s United States Championship is on the line in this one. Gallows and Anderson are at ringside for this one. Ricochet starts off strong with a flurry of strikes on AJ, then he dumps AJ out to ringside for a suicide dive hurricanrana. Back in the ring, Ricochet misses a shot in the corner and AJ fires back with some kicks. AJ starts working over Ricochet’s left knee, and Ricochet is now selling a knee injury. Ricochet finally fights back with an enziguri, and both men are down now. Ricochet follows up with more strikes and a hurricanrana. More kicks from Ricochet, then Ricochet hits a springboard flying clothesline off the top for a two count. They brawl out to ringside and AJ drops Ricochet with a kick to the head. Ricochet starts fighting back, but his bad knee keeps giving out, and AJ puts him in the Calf Crusher. Ricochet fights out and puts AJ in the Anaconda Vice. AJ breaks free, but Ricochet puts him back down with a Northern Lights suplex. Ricochet hits another suplex for a two count. Gallows and Anderson try to get involved from ringside, but Ricochet takes them out with a suicide dive. They fight in the corner, and Ricochet knocks AJ down and then goes for a corkscrew 450 splash, but AJ catches him. AJ turns it into a Styles Clash for the three count.

Winner & still U.S. Champion: AJ Styles

– After the match, Gallows and Anderson get in the ring and hit the Magic Killer on Ricochet.

– The Street Profits are backstage cutting a promo. They talk about all of the matches so far, and they want Nikki Cross to add them on Instagram. Ric Flair walks in and interrupts, Woooo! They go through all of the Ric Flair catch phrases and have a Wooo-off. Ford of the Street Profits falls down to the floor, and it looks like Flair is about to give him an elbow drop, but the screen fades to black.

– Bayley (c) vs. Ember Moon: Bayley’s SmackDown Women’s Title is on the line in this one. The opening bell sounds and Bayley and Ember trade holds on the mat in the opening moments. Ember misses a springboard moonsault and Bayley follows up with kicks in the corner. Bayley hangs Ember upside down in the corner and hits a running elbow drop on her for a two count. Bayley hits a clothesline but misses an elbow drop, and Ember fires back with a superkick. They briefly brawl at ringside, then they get back in the ring and fight up the turnbuckle. Ember hits a Frankensteiner on Bayley off the top, then she hits a version of the Codebreaker on Bayley for a two count. Bayley tries to mount a comeback, but Ember shuts her back down with a powerbomb for another two count. Ember knees Bayley in the face, then goes to the top rope. Bayley gets up and goes up the turnbuckle and hits a belly to belly suplex on Ember off the top rope. Bayley covers for the three count.

Winner & still SmackDown Women’s Champion: Bayley

– We see a video package looking at the history and feud between Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon.

– Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens: Kevin Owens’ career is on the line in this one. Shane has ring announcer Greg Hamilton do his special “best in the world” introduction while Shane stands on the turnbuckle. Shane stalls in the opening moment of the match, then rolls out to ringside and gets on the mic. Shane says to ensure that this is a fair contest tonight, and is called right down the middle, he introduces their special guest enforcer, Elias. Elias comes out to ringside in a referee shirt, and then Shane gets back in the ring and the opening bell sounds. Shane immediately rolls out to ringside and hides behind Elias. Owens and Elias start exchanging words, and Shane climbs back in the ring to try and get Owens counted out. Owens gets back in the ring and tries to lock up with Shane, but Shane once again backs out to ringside. Owens chases Shane around ringside, and Elias trips Owens. Owens rolls back in the ring and Shane starts putting the boots to Owens. Owens turns the tides and pummels on Shane, then hits the cannonball splash on Shane in the corner. Owens clotheslines Shane out to ringside, then Owens goes for a suicide dive, but Elias stands in the way and Owens stops. This leads to Shane hitting a cheap shot on Owens and then throwing him into the fan barricade. Back in the ring, Shane puts the boots to Owens in the corner. Shane continues the offense with a Russian leg sweep and a DDT. Owens fights back with a pop up powerbomb, but Elias distracts the ref before Owens can pin. Owens is frustrated but continues the offense on Shane. Elias slides a steel chair in the ring, and Shane taunts Owens to use it to get him disqualified. Shane gets up and slaps Owens across the face. Owens goes to swing the chair but doesn’t. Owens yells at Elias and Elias gets on the apron. Shane goes to punch Owens, but Owens ducks and Shane mistakenly takes out Elias. Owens superkicks Shane down and then hits a Swanton Bomb off the top. Owens goes back up top and hits a frogsplash, then pins Shane, but Elias pulls the referee out by the foot. Owens hits a cannonball on Elias at ringside, but he accidentally takes out the real referee in the process. Back in the ring, Owens picks up the chair, but Elias pulls him out to ringside. The real ref is still down, and Owens grabs the chair and starts repeatedly nailing Elias with it at ringside. Owens brings the chair back in the ring. The ref gets back in the ring and Shane hands the chair over to him. The ref throws the chair out to ringside, and while his back is tuned, Owens hits a low blow on Shane. Owens follows up with the Stunner on Shane for the three count.

Winner: Kevin Owens

– Charlotte vs. Trish Stratus: Charlotte and Trish trade shoves to start, then Trish kicks Charlotte and this the Thesz Press. Trish follows up with a headlock takedown and then a springboard hurricanrana. Charlotte gets a hold of Trish’s leg and looks for the Figure Four, but Trish fights out and throws Charlotte down. They tangle up and fall out to ringside, and Trish hits a splash from the apron on Charlotte on the floor. On the way back in the ring, Charlotte slams Trish face-first into the ring steps. Charlotte throws Trish into the barricade, then takes her back in the ring for more offense. Charlotte works over Trish on the mat and then hits a t-bone suplex on her. Trish starts to fight back, but Charlotte big boots her out to ringside. Back in the ring, Charlotte hits some knee strikes on Trish. Charlotte looks for a moonsault off the top, but Charlotte moves out of the way. Trish and Charlotte start trading strikes now, and Trish hits a series of chops to the chest on Charlotte. Trish looks for a hurricanrana in the corner but Charlotte blocks it and they trade punches on the turnbuckle now. Trish hits a Frankensteiner off the top on Charlotte for a two count. Charlotte fights back and starts working over Trish’s knee. Trish fights back and puts Charlotte in a version of the Figure Four leg lock, but Charlotte reaches the ropes to break the hold. Charlotte looks for a spear in the corner but misses. Trish hits a springboard bull dog on Charlotte for a two count. Charlotte and Trish trade chops to the chest now, then Trish rolls up Charlotte for a two count. Charlotte misses a kick, and Trish connects with a kick on Charlotte for another two count. Charlotte fights back and drops Trish, then she puts Trish in the Figure Four. Charlotte bridges the hold and Trish taps out.

– Trish gets a standing ovation on her way out.

– We see Seth Rollins backstage with his ribs taped up. Bret Hart walks over and gets a big pop from the Toronto fans. Bret wishes Seth good luck in his match and shakes his hand, then leaves.

– They roll a video package looking at the feud and history between Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton.

– Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Randy Orton: Kofi’s WWE Championship is on the line in this one. Orton and Kofi trade strikes in the opening moments, and Kofi drops Orton with a springboard flying clothesline. Kofi misses a shot in the corner and Orton shoves Kofi out to ringside. Orton follows up with a back suplex on the announce table. Kofi comes back with a flying clothesline off the ring steps on Orton on the floor. Orton comes back with another back suplex on the announce table, then takes him back in the ring. Kofi starts to fight back and hits a series of clotheslines on Orton Kofi follows up with the Boom Drop on Orton. Kofi looks for the Trouble In Paradise, but Orton blocks it and hits a backbreaker. Orton appears to be bleeding lightly above his eye. Orton looks for the draping DDT on Kofi, but Kofi reverses it and throws Orton out to ringside. Kofi goes to the top rope and hits a dive on Orton on the floor. Back in the ring, Kofi hits a frogsplash off the top on Orton for a two count. Kofi looks for a kick but Orton blocks it and hits a DDT on the Champion. Kofi fights back and looks for a shot off the top rope, but Orton catches Kofi in mid-air with the RKO. Kofi rolls out to ringside and Oton follows. Orton starts staring down some kids at ringside who we are told are Kofi’s family. Kofi freaks out and starts pummeling on Orton now and beating Orton down all over ringside.

Winner: Double count out

– Kofi grabs a kendo stick from under the ring and he tees off on Orton with it. Back in the ring, Kofi continues nailing Orton with the kendo stick until he stops moving. Kofi waits for Orton to get to his feet now, and Kofi nails him with the Trouble In Paradise.

– We see a video package looking at the feud between Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor. Balor has a new entrance as “The Fiend” with the lights out and a spotlight on him. He carries a lantern to the ring that is shaped like his head. Bray is also wearing orange contact lenses.

– Bray Wyatt vs. Finn Balor: Bray is wrestling as “The Fiend” in his mask for his match. Bray starts off with a mandible claw on Balor, then he stomps on him. Bray follows up with a headbutt and some punches in the corner. Bray misses a shot in the corner. Bray bends backwards and Balor stops in his tracks. Bray follows up with a clothesline and more strikes, then he twists Balor’s neck around. Bray follows up with a version of the Rock Bottom. Bray looks at his hands and starts freaking out. He grabs Balor and looks for the Sister Abigail, but Balor escapes. Balor hits the sling blade on Bray, and then connects with several kicks. Balor hits a knee strike, then he goes to the top rope. Finn goes flying down towards Bray, but Bray catches him and gives him the Mandible Claw for the finish.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

– The lights go out and we hear Bray laughing over the speakers, then some creepy sounds play. A spotlight hits Bray and he looks into the camera. The lights go out again, and when they come back on, Bray is gone, and Balor is left recovering in the ring.

– We see a video package looking at the feud between Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar over the WWE Universal Title.

– Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Seth Rollins: Brock’s Universal Title is on the line in this one. Paul Heyman is in Brock’s corner, and he does Brock’s special ring introduction. Brock starts off strong and charges Rollins into the corner for some punishment. Rollins fights back with a kick to the face. Brock looks for a German suplex, but Seth lands on his feet and hits a curb stomp on Brock. Seth covers for a two count. Brock rolls out to ringside and Seth hits a flying knee off the apron on Brock. Back in the ring, Brock fights back with the F-5. Brock grabs Rollins by his taped ribs, and he hits a series of German suplexes on Rollins. The fight spills out to ringside and Brock hits a German suplex on the floor. Rollins starts fighting back, and back in the ring Rollins hits a flying knee strike to the face of Lesnar. Rollins goes back to the top rope for another one, but Brock side-steps it and hits a German suplex on Rollins. Brock looks for a spear in the corner, but Seth side-steps it and Brock crashes in to the ring post. Rollins dumps Brock outside and follows up with a suicide dive on him. Rollins runs back in the ring and hits a second suicide dive on the Champion. Rollins looks for a third dive, but this time Brock catches Seth and slams him into the ring post. Seth comes back with a superkick, and he puts Brock on the announce table. Seth goes to the top rope and hits a frogsplash off the top turnbuckle on Brock through the announce table. Back in the ring, Rollins hits another frog splash for a two count. Rollins looks for a superkick, but Brock blocks. Brock looks for the F-5, but Seth escapes. Seth hits a superkick, and follows up with the curb stomp. Seth pins for the three count, and we have a new Champion.

Winner & new Universal Champion: Seth Rollins

– Rollins celebrates with his Universal Title belt after the match as we go to replays. Seth climbs on one of the announce tables and holds his belt in the air as fireworks go off and SummerSlam goes off the air.
