Recently, on the newest episode of ‘The Nitty Gritty Dirt Show’ on RussosBrand.com, Billi Bhatti sat down with former WWE writer Vince Russo. The two talked about a vast landscape of all things pro-wrestling. Here, the two discussed how the original plan for WWE WrestleMania 37 was for McIntyre to be WWE Champion, defeating Bobby Lashley in the process. This ’embarrassing’ Drew McIntyre botch was recently leaked on Raw.
In addition, Bhatti discusses how the plan got so far that Drew was considering flying out family members into non COVID-19 flagged countries such as Denmark and Mexico, then into the United States to see him win the title. However, as Bhatti explains, Drew soon called this off and plans were changed. Wrestling-Edge transcribed Bhatti’s comments below.
Bhatti: I know two weeks before WrestleMania it was still as case of Drew looking for ideas in terms of possibilities of getting family members over there. I remember a conversation where I said that there is a way to do it but you have to fly your people to a non-flagged country and set up in fourteen days. So we were looking at Denmark, Mexico, all these kinds of options and then to the United States. At some point the decision was made by Drew not to send family members in there, obviously that was the time where things were changed up. When there were ideas to do that he was still scheduled to be the WWE Champion.
