Democratic lawmakers who served on the January 6th committee have expressed concern that former President Donald Trump might imprison them if he regains the presidency.

A report by CBS News reveals that House Democrats who played significant roles on the House January 6th select committee are worried they may be targeted by the Department of Justice under a potential Trump administration.

These lawmakers have reportedly had conversations with their families about the possibility of facing imprisonment if Trump returns to the White House. In March, Trump suggested the potential arrest of those involved in the January 6th committee, including former Rep. Liz Cheney, stating on Truth Social, “She should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!”

Rep. Adam Schiff told CBS News that he and his wife have discussed the possibility of facing dire consequences, saying, “You can’t avoid the conversations about ‘What if?’ And I have to think about my own personal safety.”

Similarly, Rep. Pete Aguilar lightheartedly referenced the proximity of the D.C. jail to Capitol Hill but acknowledged that his family would support him regardless. Aguilar previously served on the committee and now chairs the House Democratic Caucus.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren stressed the importance of taking Trump’s statements seriously, stating, “When Trump says something, he intends to do it.”

Police witnesses who contributed to the committee’s investigation into the Capitol riot share similar fears, believing they could face legal consequences under a potential Trump administration. Former Washington, D.C. police officer Michael Fanone expressed concern that Trump would weaponize the Department of Justice and use it to target individuals like him.
