Hiroshi Tanahashi removed from NJPW NEW BEGINNINGS Tour

The former IWGP Intercontinental Champion has been working with an injured knee for the better part of two months. The Ace was recently in a feud with Jay White, resulting in a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 where it was clear his knee wasn’t exactly at 100%.

On January 27th, Tanahashi fought Minoru Suzuki, failing to defend his belt after Suzuki picked apart his knee throughout the match. NJPW put out a statement on their website, explaining the extent of Tanahashi’s diagnosis, and apologizing to those expecting to see him on the tour.

Tanahashi has been diagnosed with acute osteoarthritis in his right knee. As a result, the decision has been made to remove Tanahashi from the NEW BEGINNING Tour, with changes to the card to be announced.

We apologize to fans who were looking forward to seeing Tanahashi and appreciate your understanding.
