Jerry Lawler’s son, Kevin Lawler, was informed that Lawler will be able to return to normal physical activity, including wrestling again, once he recovers from the heart attack suffered on Monday. WREG-TV in Memphis reported Thursday afternoon:

“A CAT scan showed no signs of brain damage and doctors expect him to make a full recovery. Kevin talked to his dad for the first time today and says he sounded just like himself. He says doctors say his father is healthy for his age and they see no reason why he won’t be able to wrestle again.”

Yeah, I think too much of the movie “The Wrestler” as I see this unfolding.

  • Logan

Just make the man a special guest referee for Divas matches on occasion and he’ll be fine. King loves his puppies.

It may very well be Jerrys decision as to whether he wrestles again, but I seriously dont think it will ever happen in a WWE ring again. Say what you want about Vince, but he has too much to lose if he puts him in a match and he dies. Having an accident happen is one thing, but if a guy who has already had an on air heart attack dies in a match, it would cripple the WWE.
As Hunter says, I’d also guess that any form of insurance would be pretty much impossible to get now.
Only way he will probably wrestle again is on the indy circuit.

The simple fact is, that we only have his sons word that that is what the doctors said. They may have said he is healthy for his age (heart attack not withstanding), but to say he may wrestle again … thats the bit I would doubt a doctor would commit to.

It’s amazing how many of you seem to think that a heart attack is a sign of poor health. A heart attack can happen to anyone, anywhere, any time. Your chances do -increase- if you’re unhealthy, and if you’re older. But there’s so many reasons for what causes them, that it’s just not as simple as: “he was unhealthy, that’s why” or “He did too much physical activity. That’s why”.

You could live your life entirely drug free, only living on all natural, healthy foods, doing -every single thing- to stay as healthy as possible, and it’s still possible to have a heart attack. I know a guy who had one at 43, even though he was a health food nut, and worked as an accountant. Physical activity didn’t even contribute.

  • Hunter

He won’t wrestle again- no insurence company will touch him.

  • Karl

It’s good to hear that he’s going to be okay, but wrestle? I wouldn’t want to see him in any matches except quick ones where he takes only a few light bumps.

  • Jerk Factor

Yes, it’s Lawler’s decision but really, he shouldn’t be wrestling anymore. That whole Miz debacle from last year should be enough reason, let alone having a frickin HEART ATTACK 45 minutes after wrestling. But yet here we see commenters, basically saying it’s his decision blah blah. How about some common sense? Why are WWE constantly putting a 63 y.o. man on screen in feuds with Punk etc, keeping younger talent off screen, just so Lawler exherts himself so much in their absence he has a heart attack? That basically sums up the current WWE product. Just dumb.

Jerry was sitting dwn and talkin should he quit doing that maybe sitting caused it yea he wrestldd earlier but Jerry has to make decsion. He has to weigh it all and do what he feels right. And say what u want but from what I heard Vince was at hosp daily so that was reported by family and some news

  • Ray

Please for the love of your family and health. Just walk away from the wresting aspect of the business and still to the commentary.

  • Dan

Most people in the UK will know what happened to Fabrice Muamba, 24 year old professional soccer player who had a heart attack on the pitch earlier this year. He retired so as not to risk putting unnecessary stress on his heart. If Jerry decides to come back he should stick to commentary, hopefully as the “heel” commentator as that was when he is at his best.

Jerry Lawler just sent a tout message out, Glad to hear he him speak so well after what happened on Monday.

  • Wellsy

Just wondering what caused the heart attack. Natural defect? Poor diet? What? He’s an active person, and if he doesn’t do drink or drugs then there’s not much left to look at.

The main issue with making his decision is will being physically active increase the chances of this happening again? Until the full reports or out, I wouldn’t be able to make judgement on that.

    @Zach:

Sorry, but you’re an idiot if you think Vince doesn’t give a damn about his employees.

At the end of the day, it’s not Vince’s decision, it’s not the fans’ decisions, it’s not anyone else’s decision but Jerry’s.

How many times have we heard him & others (including J.R) say that he still sees himself as a wrestler? He was even upset about being inducted into the H.O.F because he didn’t consider himself retired and knew he wasn’t done wrestling.

  • Eve’s left nipple

Jerry Lawler doesn’t need to be wrestling, If when he is healthy and he wants to then so be it. But after wrestling 40+ years he should be enjoying retirement sooner rather than later.

  • Deva

Randy the ram !! wow, well if u think about it he doesn’t really wrestle, he just throws punches and his finishing move is a punch of the second rope, as long as he doesnt run in the ring.

  • Tim

I say lawler should take a break for a bit. Maybe return to commentate at wrestlemania. He’s damn lucky to be alive and he shouldn’t temp fate.

  • Zach D

And u know Vince will take advantage of that. He doesn’t care about people, all he cares about is money. We are all lucky that he will be able to return normal to commentary, because he could have been brain dead. Don’t push it and let him wrestle again, especially after he’s had a heart attack.

  • Anon

As Craig said, this is Jerry’s decision & Jerry’s alone.

Anything can happen at any given time. As Jim Ross stated, Jerry’s always been young at heart, never had a smoke/drink/drug in his life, wrestles several times a month, and still plays on his softball team. Yet, he STILL had a heart attack.

If the doctors give him the ok, and Jerry wants to continue wrestling, than he should. Nobody should live their life in fear. Anything can happen at any time, but as long as the doctors say he can wrestle, and he wants to wrestle, than he should.

  • DiamondSkye

I’m going out on a limb here, but I see the King in a match and Vince giving him a championship belt to go out on.

  • Yes! 3X

Why the hell would he even consider ever wrestling again? He’d be a 63 year old man who just had just recovered a heart attack. Thats an easy hint to take.

  • Craig

    @ SYM

That is a decision for Lawler and Lawler only to make. If he is healthy and makes a full recovery and doctors see no reason why he can’t wrestle then he should be allowed to do what makes him happy. You nor anybody else has any right to say what he should or shouldn’t do.

  • Unique

Healthy for his age?? Clearly not really.

  • SYM

Are you serious? The guy just had a Heart Attack and people are still wanting him to wrestle? What if the next time isn’t luck, what if its fatal?
