— Jerry Lawler announced this afternoon on Twitter that he will be on hand for tonight’s Raw SuperShow in Lafayette, Louisiana.
He wrote, “Just landed in Lafayette, LA… driving now to the Cajundome! I’m ready & excited to be back on #Raw tonight!!”
Two weeks ago on Raw, Lawler assisted Jim Ross after he was attacked by Mark Henry; the World Heavyweight Champion turned his attention to “The King” and slammed him through the announce table. This forced Lawler off-screen with what was reported by Michael Cole last week as bruised ribs and, to the confusion of his fellow announcers, anal bleeding.
— This past weekend’s episode WWE Vintage Collection (shown on Sky Sports in the U.K.) was the second of a two part look at WCW’s Fall Brawl pay-per-view. The matches that aired were Diamond Dallas Page vs. Chavo Guerrero (1996), Brian Knobbs, Jerry Sags, Dusty Rhodes and Dustin Rhodes vs. Terry Funk, Arn Anderson, Bunkhouse Buck and Col. Robert Parker in a WarGames match (1994), and “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith and Jim Neidhart vs. Alex Wright and Disco Inferno (1998).
Smith’s match would be his last for WCW. While taking a bump, Smith landed awkwardly on a trapdoor that had been set in the ring to enable Ultimate Warrior to make a dramatic entrance in the evening’s main event. The result was a spinal infection that nearly paralyzed Smith, hospitalizing him for six months. While recuperating, Smith received a FedEx informing him that his contract had been terminated.
