The GFW World Title has been in news lately mostly due to the controversial nature of its former holder, Alberto Del Rio. Though finally, it’s now in the hands of a less controversial star.
We noted before how GFW suspended Alberto Del Rio for the infamous airport incident and recently he was stripped of the GFW title because officials were not pleased with the manner in which he dealt with the incident.
Then during the latest episode of Impact Wrestling Jim Cornette returned to the Impact Zone and announced a 20 Men Gauntlet match for the vacant title on next week’s episode of the show.
The episode was taped later on the night and it saw GFW Star Eli Drake winning the announced match and becoming the new World Heavyweight Championship.
The bout in which Eli won the Championship also saw a former WWE Intercontinental Champion making his Impact debut for the company.
Drake has been a part of the company previously known as TNA since 2015 and has won the King Of The Mountain Championship too. He has had a number of short stints with WWE as well but it was nothing significant.
